Kensington Pub
BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
The Backyard you wish you had…
“We would like to thank Hyperion Bank and the great people who work there from the bottom of our hearts; you made life during Covid a little easier,” says Kevin Konieczny, the owner of Kensington Pub (2116 East Tioga Street, PHL 19134).

He says that, like a lot of other businesses, COVID hit the pub hard until the City and State started allowing things to reopen. “The opening of outdoor dining helped us tremendously because we have a beautiful outdoor beer garden – The Backyard – and a huge digital television screen,” he says. “People started coming just to get out of their houses and socialize again.”

The Backyard enabled people to safely socially distance while trying out Kensington Pub’s new menu. “These last few months have been better for us with more and more people stopping by to try our menu and then calling back to reserve tables and get takeout,” Konieczny notes.

“Hyperion Bank has been our financial institution since we opened in 2011 and has been there for us with regular banking needs since,” he says. “It has consistently provided us with superior customer care, answered questions, walked us through many situations that businesses run into during regular operations and so much more. We have always appreciated their hard work. But when COVID-19 hit, we found we needed them more than ever.”

Konieczny says the government relief plans were difficult to navigate when the programs began to open for applications. “(Hyperion’s) Frank Sullivan and his team made it a priority to get us funded quickly. The bank’s patience and insight got us through the process of applying, gathering documentation and understanding the commitment we were making.”

Check out Kensington Pub’s incredible Backyard. As one of its social media posts recently said, it’s the place to be if you want the beach feeling but don’t want to pay $100 for gas!
Look no further: Competitive deposit rates
Competitive Interest Rates
Rate shopping. You probably know someone who has done it or you may have done so yourself. Some consumers assume a credit union has better deposit rates and lower rates on loans. Along the way they may discover some things, like, typically, big-box banks have super low deposit rates on savings accounts.

Hyperion Bank Branch Manager Lee Green says that sometimes consumers may not realize they should really look at what their local community bank has to offer them.
“Our deposit rates may be more competitive than other local banks,” he says. “For instance, Hyperion Bank savings and money market rates are high compared to local Philly Markets. All told, consumers may want to research what their local community bank has to offer on rates rather than just going to a bigger bank or credit union and assuming they are getting a higher deposit rate or lower lending rate.”

He also notes that community banks like Hyperion are relationship-oriented. So, if you have one relationship with the bank (like one account or a loan), it pays to investigate having other services at the same institution, rather than rate-shopping and just assuming there are advantages.

Lee’s final word? “Check us out; your community banker will work with you on the slate of products and services that best serve you.” Contact your Hyperion banker.
