Climate Action Plan Survey: Student Responses Requested
The City of Lawrence and all of Douglas County are building a Climate Action Plan to adapt to the impacts of a changing climate and do our part to slow climate change. The action planning team is looking for voices from every corner of the community, including those of your students!



CSL Ambassador Program
The CSL Ambassador Program connects faculty, staff, students, and community partners who are interested in promoting service-learning, and civic and community engagement.

Ambassadors serve as liaisons to their department, unit, organization, and network to champion the integration of community and civic engagement.

If your courses incorporate community engagement, volunteer, or service components, it may qualify for our Service Learning Course Designation!

Designated courses count towards the service learning course requirement for the Certificate in Service Learning.

Instructor Spotlight:
Kathleen Dahl-Nuckolls
This year, we are excited to present Environmental Studies lecturer Kathleen Dahl-Nuckolls with an Excellence in Service Learning Award.

This award recognizes the implementation of service learning in a manner consistent with good practice and for demonstrating an impact on students and the community both in and out of the classroom.

Kathleen has also been a dedicated participant in the CSL’s Service Learning Ambassador program!


Staff Spotlight:
Mercedes Bounthapanya
This year, we are excited to present CLAS staff member Mercedes Bounthapanya with our Staff Excellence Award for Community Engagement.

This award recognizes a staff member for their engagement with community organizations and local concerns in their work at the University of Kansas.


Community Service Capacity Awards
Community Service Capacity Awards are available to KU students through the Center for Service Learning to address barriers and challenges to service participation and engagement with and in communities.

Please encourage any students experiencing barriers/hardships in supporting service learning course activities to apply for a Community Service Support Award.

Certificate in Service Learning
The Certificate in Service Learning recognizes undergraduate students' experiences in utilizing classroom skills to meet community-identified needs through service and civic action.

Once a student has earned the certificate, it is acknowledged on their official academic transcript.
