Welcome to Quilting News
January 2023
Message from Lisa
I'm not even sure how to say Welcome to 2023. I was so stressed during the Holidays with family drama that I really didn't get to enjoy myself as much as I wanted. Then I ended up slipping on Christmas morning trying to get mom into my house and ended up in the ORTHO place getting a shot the day before the Appreciation Lunch!

So I tried to make myself feel better by getting my big tub of projects that have been donated or gifted to me by others done, YES DONE!!! I have quilted and bound almost 10 out of my tub. It makes me feel great when I can see the bottom of the tub and know that they are not waiting any more. They will be on their way to help make someone else smile and feel better I hope very soon.

Charity is what I love and what I hope that each of you can help by donating a quilt that you may have made a long time ago and it just needs a new home. So at our January Quilting Sister's meeting please bring a quilt to donate to either a nursing home or a NICU quilt or it can be a twin size quilt that we can give to Teresa Whitlock for her men's home she wants to give quilts to. I have one already waiting for her.

Let's start off the year with Love in our hearts and keep it there as LONG as we can.

For those going on the beach retreat in March, please mark the first Saturday in February for our Information meeting. THIS is an important meeting and we go over everything you need to know. If you can't attend, please let Lisa know ASAP. An email will be going out very soon to those attending. YES I still have a long list of folks on the WAIT list. You will be contacted as soon as I know of an opening. Keep your fingers crossed. I hate to loose anyone this close to our departure, but you never know.....

Excited for all the new things happening at Shining Star! Trixie and I will see you very soon.

Lisa

Quilting Sister's

Do you like to sew for charity? Do you like to sew with friends? Come join our new group of quilter's who have a passion to make items and give back to the community. We will be using the conference room at the Firehouse, 1956 Urbine Road, Powhatan, VA 23139. We start at 9 AM and sew until 3 PM.

Our December meeting was so much fun. We raised $701.00 from our silent auction and had fun eating and making NICU hearts for the hospitals.
Our January meeting will resume on the second Saturday of the month. Starting at 9 am. This meeting will be mostly about setting up committee's and future projects. We hopefully will present our first quilt to the fire house! So bring a project to work on and we can sew and meet at the same time. If you need some more hearts, I have a bucket full of Flannel again! Thanks and see you soon! Until we see each other... Keep on Quilting my Sister's
Wooly Friends Group
Welcome to a very new and special group of ladies. Our next meeting is Tuesday, January 17th. Doors open at 9 AM. This group has room for more people. So if you have wanted to learn how to do wool projects or where to start, then you need to be at our next meeting.

Our December meeting was a great time making Christmas Wreathes. Thanks to Phyllis for being our leader! We had a few new ladies who joined our group and we are excited to have you! We had an ornament exchange and lots of great food to eat also.

For our January meeting we will e making the little Christmas Trees. You will need about 5-6 pieces of green or any color for your trees cut 5" x 10" and we will run those through the cutter. You will need glue, and your favorite small pair of sharp scissors. I have the rusty stars for the top and the dowel rods. We will make 1 tree per person. I am looking forward to this fun project. Any questions, just let Lisa Know. We have moved our schedule around just a little...
Future Projects:
January - Small tree project
February - Wooly Pine (Darlene Vincent) & Lilac Spray (Lisa Adams)
March - Up in the air....
April - Up in the air....

Lisa now has a Sissix cutter and a few dyes. Just let her know if you want to use one during the meeting to cut something.

New Favorite Wool Site: Old Tattered Flag. I just love all her stuff and thanks for sharing this location with the group. We now have several of the dies .
Cross Class in 2023
I have been asked by several quilter's to have this class. January 28th for this class. If you would be interested in making this beautiful quilt with your colors of choice, then let me know so I can add you to the class list. The class will cost $25.00 and once your spot has been paid in full, I will give you the material specifications for the quilt. It measures about 48" x 66" depending on how big your borders are. So it could possibly be a little bigger.

Class is a Saturday, and starts at 9 AM.

Signed up so far: Barbara Bonaquisti, Sherry Elwell, Anna Helms, Cindy Farinholt, Doris Kerns, Stacie Payne and Heather Meadowcroft. We can take 10 for this class. I will email the cutting instructions the week before the class. Thanks.
Crow Quilt for 2023
This is a fun quilt to make. I just have this thing for crows now. So I made this about a month ago and it hangs in my family room. So again I have been asked to teach this class. The date is Saturday, February 18th and the cost is $25.00. Class is a Saturday, and starts at 9 AM. If you would like to take this class your payment will hold your spot and I will send out the fabric requirements. It is a great project and not very hard. So if this interest you, please sign up!

Teri Donnelly, Linda Thompson, Joy Yoshino, Linda Cross, and Cindy Farinholt.
CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAY
THANK YOU SO MUCH! IT WAS A GREAT DAY!
Quilters Daycare Group
Quilter's Daycare is a Thursday sew group. We are FULL right now with lots of ladies. SO please don't invite anyone else to our group Please make sure that you slide over and make room for everyone that wants to sew. We have an additional room that can hold only 4 sewers. We want everyone to feel welcome. We have missed many of you. Your $5 covers your seat charge each Thursday. See you soon! Reminder the door opens at 9 am not earlier. (I'm with mom getting her up and ready for her day)
Thank You!
A Big surprise for the new year! We have a new color for bags. Each customer will get a new bag for 2023. Guess the color?

Payment is accepted by Cash, Check, Venmo and/or Zelle.

See you soon! Trixie and Lisa
