Dear River Forest residents,

This Monday, October 25, the Village Board of Trustees and I will hear a presentation on the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), which is prepared annually by the Finance Department. I am happy to report that the audit conducted by BKD, LLP, a firm of licensed independent auditors, issued a clean opinion on the Village’s financial statements. The Village continues to receive awards recognizing its practice of going beyond the minimum requirements and preparing a CAFR that evidences the spirit of transparency and full disclosure. Congratulations to our team, with special recognition of Finance Director Rosemary McAdams and Assistant Finance Director Keke Boyer.

Also, next week on Wednesday, October 27, our Police Department will hold its Quarterly Community Safety meeting at Village Hall. All residents are welcome to attend in person or via Zoom. Please see the article below for more details.

Sincerely,
Cathy Adduci, Village President

Covid-19 Update
The CDC is offering further direction regarding booster shots for those who received the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine. Individuals 65 and older, residents of long-term care facilities and those 18 years and older with underlying health conditions are encouraged to receive the booster at least six months after getting the two shots. For more information about booster eligibility, click here.

Residents interested in receiving the first COVID-19 vaccination can pre-schedule appointments or walk-in at several locations; homebound suburban Cook County residents can learn more about how to receive the vaccine here. As flu season approaches, the CDC also recommends the seasonal flu vaccine for everyone aged six months and up to protect against infection and illness-related complications. Updated Halloween Guidance
The Illinois Department of Public Health has issued updated guidance to encourage safe Halloween celebrations. Face covers are recommended indoors, trick-or-treaters should travel in small groups and wash hands regularly - especially after receiving treats. For families that choose to trick-or-treat this year, please be considerate to residents who have made a decision not to participate. The Village’s trick-or-treat hours are on Sunday, October 31 from 3 - 7 p.m. For more information, including additional safety tips and signage for your front door, click here.
HPC Proposes
Ordinance Change

The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will hold a public meeting in-person at Village Hall and on Zoom, on Wednesday, November 10, at 7 p.m., regarding a proposed change to the Village’s Historic Preservation ordinance. The change that is being proposed by the HPC is to extend the maximum length of demolition delay from six months to twelve months, only for significant properties that are zoned in the PRI Public, Recreational and Institutional District

Properties that would be subject to this change and more information can be found here. Owners of these properties are being contacted directly to notify them of this proposed change. All are welcome to attend this public meeting to learn more and/or provide comments on this proposed change.
Quarterly Community
Safety Meeting

Reminder! The quarterly Community Safety Meeting will take place via Zoom and in-person on Wednesday, October 27 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Village Hall. This meeting will be open to the public and residents are invited to attend.

The River Forest Police Department will be joined by guest speakers from our local senior lifestyle community, The Sheridan at River Forest, for an overview of their services as well as some free training on dementia communication. Members of the River Forest Police Department will also speak on recent community events, crime prevention tips and more. As always, the presentation will be followed by a Q&A session, with our guests and members of the River Forest Police Department.
Take a Break From the Rake This Fall!
The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) suggests raking only some of your leaves this fall. Allowing leaves to remain in flower beds can help shelter wildlife and plants during colder months, and form a natural mulch that conserves water year-round and enriches the soil. The NWF also recommends mulching leaves with a lawnmower, and leaving clippings on the lawn. To learn more, click here.

When you mask up, your eyes and eyebrows are the only things visible! Make sure they look their best with microblading, shading and tinting at Chi Browtique. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (708) 400-7100 or click here.
