I don't know about you, but I'm tired of "April showers" and am eagerly awaiting "May flowers" to appear, along with more sunshine. Happily, there are lots of colors in the shop to distract me and I have plenty of wool to wear to keep me warm. But come on, sunshine!
Earlier this month, I drove up to Seattle and attended a small wholesale show. I'm not sure my car knew what was going on when we went past downtown and headed north. In the almost five years I've owned my little Subaru, it's never gone on that long of a drive. But it performed quite well and got great gas mileage -- which is good since gas is so darned expensive these days -- and provided a nice smooth ride to the event. I missed out on the freak April snowstorm, though.
As a result of attending the show, I was able to get something very special from Malabrigo that's only available for ordering at a couple of wholesale shows this year. Read on for more info.
Saturday is LYS Day and we'll have some special items available all weekend. There are free patterns with purchase, special kits, and some new yarns. Details to follow!

Free patterns with purchase
Buy yarn to make either (or both) of these projects and we'll include a code that lets you download the pattern(s) from Ravelry free of charge. Free pattern codes are only available and functioning on Saturday and Sunday.
On the left, we have our sample of Casapinka's offering this year, the Ric Rac shawl. It's made with two skeins of fingering weight yarn. We used Sun River in Aquatic from Alexandra the Art of Yarn, paired with Malabrigo Sock in Dewberry. Any two colors you like will work because they're used evenly throughout. Choose speckles, variegated, solids in any combination you like. The pattern is simple and fun to knit and the finished piece is very wearable and pretty.
On the right is a new pattern, Balloons and Streamers, designed by Molly Conroy using two new colors of Merlin from Alexandra the Art of Yarn. It's DK weight and worked from the bottom up using intarsia. Just two skeins will make this piece. It's shown in the special LYS Day colors, Stacked Stone (main color) and Lichen (contrast color), but you can choose from a whole variety of other colors to create a version that's perfect for you. Alexandra has created some new colors in this same base and renamed it Seal Rock. Merlin and Seal Rock are interchangeable. Below is the full lineup of colors:

|
Special LYS Day colors: Lichen and Stacked Stone
|
|
New colors, left to right: Hyacinth, Gangster Purple, Evergreen, Granite, and Red Carpet
|
|
Our exclusive colors, left to right: Lupine, Bluebells, Alfalfa, Marigold, and Firestar

And here's the special Malabrigo Sock yarn, Metamorphosis. We have all ten colors in stock. Each 440-yard skein is the same base yarn as the Malabrigo Sock we all love, 100% superwash Merino. You can pair it with solid colors or use it on its own. The shawl in progress in the picture is Autumn's Weekend, a free pattern on Ravelry in the Starry Night color. It's gotten bigger since I took the picture and it's perfect in its simplicity for this yarn. As I mentioned above, this yarn is a limited edition item and it's unclear whether we'll be able to reorder it, so if it looks enticing to you, come grab some!

Mother's Day is coming up and if you'd like a quick gift, we've got a bunch of cute washcloth kits. Each kit comes with one ball of Appalachian Baby Organic Cotton, a pattern for a simple corner-to-corner washcloth, and a bar of locally-made Oregon soap (cucumber-melon scented). Make up a gift bundle or gift the kit itself. These are also wonderful hostess gifts any time of year. Assorted colors available, in-shop only for now.
And of course there's lots more to see. Loads of mini-skeins in both fingering and DK weight, all of the remaining inventory of Silverton from Alexandra the Art of Yarn -- this Merino/Tencel/Nylon base is being discontinued -- a lot of wonderful yarns from Duchess of Dyepots, many of which aren't on the website, and still a great selection of Fierce Fibers yarns, too. So much more.
We hope you'll come visit and check it all out!
