Senior Pastor's Note

Rev. Dr. Carolyn Stephens

Dear Saint Mark family,

Today is Good Friday. We have been walking this way for the past 39 days, and today we reach this pivotal moment. The cross is before us! It is a somber day.

Last night we had the reenactment of Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples. If you were not there, you truly missed out on a holy and inspiring work by members of our congregation. To place myself as an observer of what it may have been like on that fateful night, or even to imagine myself being one of the disciples - Judas, Peter? Then to share in the Lord’s Supper with all who were there … I left full in my heart and in my spirit. Thank you to Amy Holloway and the entire cast, to the choir, to the lighting crew and the floral arranging team, to Robert Gilleo and all the others who worked behind the scenes to make last night such a worshipful experience. I look forward to seeing more of such great work being done.

Tonight, we wrap up our Holy Week worship with the Seven Last Words service at 7 PM. I invite you to come on out and hear readings from the different versions of Gospel of Jesus’ finals words, along with the choir guiding us with music into the final moment on the cross.

Tomorrow, we will host our Neighborhood Eggstravaganza on the terrace in front of the church from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. It will be a time of fun and games for the children, and an opportunity to continue building relationship with our neighbors in the community and showing the love of Christ as we do. I invite you to come and be a part of this fun time.

For Sunday, I challenge you to invite at least two people to come with you to any of the three Easter Services. The first will be our Sunrise Communion Service at 7:00 AM on the terrace. Our second and third will be our Easter Celebration Services at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM in the sanctuary. Immediately following the last service will be our Easter Brunch in Wade Hall.

I look forward to seeing each of you and your invited guests.

Today is Good Friday. Let us remember the suffering of our Lord.
