Chairman's Message

Dear Radnor Friends and Neighbors,

On Saturday, April 24th, the Radnor Republican team sponsored a Spring Clean-Up at Willows Park. Our strong contingent contributed over 100 man-hours to removing invasive plants from the native trees and along the stream banks in the park. In addition to the real work being done, it reminded us all of the value of giving back to your community through volunteer activities. The park is better for the effort, and so are all those who participated.

And speaking of those who want to give back to their community, eight of your fellow residents have decided to volunteer their time and talent and give back to the community in a powerful way–each is running for municipal office to serve you and our community. This May 18th (or sooner if you have a mail-in ballot), you can acknowledge their candidacy and the importance of their volunteering to lead our local government by voting for them. While most of our candidates are unopposed in the Primary, it is important that you show them your support and commitment to rebalancing governance in Radnor.

In addition to supporting our candidates in the Primary, there are three IMPORTANT ballot questions for which the Primary vote is final and which will change the PA constitution if a majority is in favor of each measure. Learn more here. The first two measures seek to limit the power of the executive in emergency matters. I believe there is unanimous support among conservative organizations and Republicans on the first two ballot questions, and near unanimity on the third. I encourage all to become familiar with these ballot questions and the reasoning behind them, and vote YES to each on May 18th.

Included below are statements from three of our excellent eight candidates: Dave Falcone (School Board); Laura Foran (School Board); and Jake Abel (Ward 6 Commissioner). The five other candidates – Beth Connor (School Board), Bob Whitehead (School Board), Sean Waters (Ward 2 Commissioner), Sonja Nekoumand (Ward 4 Commissioner), and Linda Dowd (Treasurer) – each had their statements published in our March newsletter, so please take a moment to check them out here.
Howard Gartland
Chairman
Radnor Republican Committee
Candidate Statement: Dave Falcone for School Board Director
As a lifelong Radnor resident, I am excited to again be running for a seat on the Radnor Township School Board. I had previously served on the Board (2014-2018), and I served as the Board’s Vice President in 2017 and President in 2018. During my time on the Board and in Board leadership, we, through a collective and unified bipartisan effort, were able to negotiate a successful, early five-year extension of our contract with the teachers’ union and hire our current superintendent.  We established open and transparent lines of communication with our community stakeholders and prioritized data-driven decision-making.

Over the past four years, I have seen the pull of politics make its way to our School Board. I have seen a community and those who serve us get lost in an idea that what is best in Washington, DC, is best here in Radnor. I am running with the hope that we can abandon the rhetoric and return the discussion to what is best for our kids, schools and local community.

As the parents of three children in the Radnor schools, my wife, Jackie, and I understand the importance of the decisions that are made by our elected School Board officials. We, like so many families in Radnor, feel those decisions directly and, more importantly, watch as those decisions are felt by our children. If elected in November, I will, as I have in the past, work tirelessly to adjust the lens of the Board so that our focus can again be on Radnor.

Candidate Statement: Laura Foran for School Board Director
As the youngest of seven children raised in Radnor, a Radnor alumni, a parent, a resident and a current Radnor School District employee, I have invested my whole life in this town and its people. My roots are here, and I am proud to be part of such a wonderful community, but there is much work to be done (undone) by over-zealous people that have a limited agenda and no regard for costs.

I want to be on the School Board to speak for ALL kids – those in the middle that can get lost while hiding in plain sight. I am interested in more than test scores. I am invested in the Social and Emotional Wellness of our children.

It would be an honor to serve and know that I can be counted on to ASK QUESTIONS that need to be asked and serve ALL members of this town. It truly is time for a change - character matters.

On the Lighter Side: Dam
Candidate Statement: Jake Abel for 6th Ward Commissioner
All elections are important, but this November residents will have to decide if there needs to be balance on the Board to ensure all voices are represented or if Radnor is going to have a one-party system where there is no transparency and policies are rammed through without a conversation.

Sixth Ward neighbors expect and deserve a commissioner who is going to be honest with them and stand for valued principles. For the last four years, I have spoken about the values important to me – transparency in government, fiscal stewardship, public safety, and protecting township parks. I have ignored the partisanship in our local government and have represented all neighbors in the ward. Together, we have focused on our shared goals and have brought incredible, positive change to our neighborhood.

However, not everyone feels they have a voice in our community, which is concerning to me. I am running for re-election in Ward 6 to ensure everyone feels they have a voice. I am running for re-election to make sure the young family on Arbordale can be confident their children can walk safely across South Devon to Filipone Park. I am running for re-election to protect the Willows Park, and all our parks, so that future generations will be able to enjoy open spaces. I am running for re-election to ensure the retired couple on Morris Road will be able to remain in the home where they raised their family as long as they choose, and not feel they are being forced out by year-on-year tax increases.

And, most importantly, I am running for re-election to teach our four boys – Noah, Eli, Benny, and Adam – the importance of public service and doing everything possible to make your community better for the next generation of leaders.

The last four years have truly been an honor, and I want to thank my Ward 6 neighbors for this wonderful opportunity. Kristie and I appreciate the kindness you have shown our family, and we are grateful for all the new friendships made during this process.

On November 3rd, I hope to earn your trust and your vote for re-election. We are One Radnor!
