F-1 Registration Reminders

As an international student in F-1 status, your enrollment at SRJC must meet certain regulatory requirements. These can be reviewed on our Visa Rules & Regulations page.

FULL-TIME ENROLLMENT

You must enroll in 12 or more units during the fall and spring semesters. Taking classes during summer session is optional.

ONLINE AND HYBRID/HYFLEX CLASSES

Only one class (or three units) that is fully online may be counted towards your 12-unit requirement. After you are enrolled in 12 units with only one online class, ISP can authorize your enrollment in additional online classes. You must email the section number of the class you wish to add to ralvarez@santarosa.edu.

  • "Hybrid" classes offer a combination of in-person and online meetings, and these are not counted as online classes.
  • "Hyflex" classes are offered simultaneously in-person and online and give students the choice of attending their preferred meeting format; these are counted as online classes.

REDUCED COURSE LOAD

In special circumstances, an F-1 student may be permitted to drop below 12 units. A student must first obtain written permission from ISP before dropping. To request a Reduced Course Load (RCL) authorization, you must submit this form and attach any required documentation. Dropping below full-time without prior authorization on your Form I-20 will result in SEVIS termination and loss of F-1 status.

International Club Updates

Culture Shock Video

If you are relatively new to the United States, you may experience some challenges adapting to a new culture and get feelings of anxiety, confusion, or homesickness. This experience is commonly known as "Culture Shock" and can be difficult to overcome.

Last semester, we asked some of our international students for suggestions of how to deal with these feelings. Check out this video for some helpful information!
