May 2021 4-H Newsletter
COVID-19 UPDATE
Due to public health concerns, the Marais des Cygnes Extension District offices are open but are limited to the number of people allowed in the offices at a given time to maintain social distancing.

  • You can also access the Marais des Cygnes Extension District via our Facebook page or our website.
  • Follow these guidelines in person club meetings and all 4-H events/activities:
  • No participant should be asked to participate in any manner that makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Please remember that even if you feel safe, we have 4-H’ers who have conditions that could put them at higher risk or have family members that they are in contact with that could be at higher risk. We need to provide a safe environment for everyone.
  • Try to offer a virtual option for those who don't feel comfortable with a group meeting.
  • You must clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that are frequently touched.
  • Maintain a 6-foot distance with others. Space seating at least 6-feet apart.
  • Masks must be worn at all K-State Research & Extension events which include all 4-H activities and meetings.
  • Provide access to hand-washing stations with soap or hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol. Check with CDC for recalls on hand sanitizer.
  • Limit the amount of time that participants are close to one another and leaders.
  • Discourage hugs, handshakes, etc.

Questions or concerns? Please contact Karla (khightow@ksu.edu) or Abbie (abbie2@ksu.edu).

Pullorum-Typhoid Test
Save the date for testing:
July 6, 2021 - 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Kansas continues to be a Pollorum-Typhoid (P-T) clean slate. This means that all poultry (except waterfowl) involved in exhibitions, such as the county fair, are required to either originate from a hatchery or breeding flock that is classified as a U.S. P-T Clean through the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP). Or test negative on the P-T test within 90 days prior to the opening date of the exhibition.

Updates & Changes
There have been changes for the Kansas State Fair Static and Small Animal Exhibit.

They are still working on a schedule for the Kansas State Fair and clarifying exhibits, so more changes will be coming.

Update - Please Read
It has come to our attention that there is an additional form that needs to be submitted to Complete the Kansas 4-H Horse Level Testing. In years past the state has not asked for the leadership page, as the agent's signature on the front page was enough. But new leadership at State Office is now asking for this.

The Leadership section for Level 1 can be found here and going to page 14.

If you have not heard back on your levels it is recommended to fill out this form, scan it, and email it to abbie2@ksu.edu. Once the form is received, Abbie will sign it and send it to the state office for you. She will copy you on the email, so you know it has been sent. If you are needing the form for Level 2 or 3 you can find it on the State 4-H webpage or contact Abbie to have it forwarded to you..

Please let us know if you have any questions, we are happy to answer them.
