Reading, Writing and a Wardrobe Success

We are deeply grateful to everyone who came out to support us at our Reading, Writing and a Wardrobe luncheon last week. Generous guests gave more than $40,000, of which $20,000 was matched dollar-for-dollar by the Olson-Vander Heyden Foundation.
Special thanks to our luncheon speakers Mari Anne Imhoff, Joanna Rosa - Saenz and Nik Stoffel for their inspiring presentations!
Volunteer Spotlight: Our "Deal Finders"
While most items that we offer come from families and individuals, our volunteer Deal Finders spend hours each week shopping to fill holes in our inventory. In 2021 alone, this dedicated crew bought more than $60,000 worth of items, which is impressive considering our average cost per piece is just $5.00! Thank you to Kathy, Mary, Marie, Jill, Cindy, Sharon, Michelle and Ann (pictured here) for helping us provide a great selection for our shoppers!
Doing some spring cleaning? Help keep our store stocked with our most needed items:

  • Shoes (kids size 8T-adult) that are in good condition and suitable for school. Our most popular styles are athletic (i.e., tennis, basketball, running, skate, etc.), slip-ons (i.e., Vans), canvas (i.e., Converse or Toms), flats and boots (all types - fashion and winter).
  • Warm winter coats and light jackets (kids size XS/4T-adult).
  • Jeans, pants and shorts for girls and boys (kids size 4T-20).
  • Shirts for girls and boys (kids size XS/4T-XL).
  • Adult size clothing that would be worn by pre-teens, teens and young adults: Pants and shorts for young women (sizes 00-26) and young men (waist sizes 27-48), shirts for young women (sizes XS-3XL) and young men (sizes XS-5XL). Athletic styles (basketball shorts/pants, yoga pants, joggers, etc.) are especially popular!

Thanks to our dedicated supporters, we won a $5,000 prize as part of the the Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric Caring Community Giveaway and $4,742 in Target Circle funds!
This funding will be used to buy critically needed coats, shoes, socks and underwear for our shoppers. Thank you to everyone who voted for us in both contests!

Sharing the Love

Meet Jo! Over the past few weeks, she’s been hard at work collecting donations from her wonderful network of neighbors and coworkers. She filled the blue bin in the picture, and then some!

We recently received another delivery of beautiful, super warm coats collected by the Eddie Bauer store at Aspen Grove in partnership with One Warm Coat. They have collected more than 600 coats for our shoppers since late last year.

Compass Montessori recently held a “Spread the Love” clothing drive. They collected, organized and sorted two car loads full of donations. Their dedicated students were more than excited to participate every step of the way, including delivery.

These awesome young men come in every Tuesday afternoon with the Thomas Jefferson High School Work Experience Study. They get a TON accomplished while learning new job skills. We are so fortunate to have their help!

The Noisy Stitchers return! These talented ladies make some truly beautiful items that our shoppers absolutely love. Thank you for your kindness.

This generous birthday girl asked her party guests to bring new socks and underwear instead of presents. She collected 155 pairs of socks and 108 pairs of underwear.

This energetic team of first grade students helped us hang clothing, organize the books they collected and roll socks. They did an amazing job, and we are so happy to have Denver Jewish Day School as a community partner!

This thoughtful donor purchased a huge load of coats on sale and delivered them right to our door. Did you know we collect warm coats all year long to make sure we are ready for back-to-school and winter shoppers? Learn more on our Clothing and Shoe Donations page.

Students from Slavens K-8 School have been extra supportive this year. In March, their Community Action Team (pictured here) came in to organize the store, and last month a group of their sixth grade students came in to process donations. Thank you to the entire Slavens community for the many ways you support our mission!
