Jenn-Marie Quinn Enhances The Academic Experience

Jenn-Marie Quinn grew up in Montreal, QC speaking English and French while taking company classes with the National Ballet of Canada. After graduating from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, she relocated to Los Angeles to work as a soundtrack coordinator and raise her two beautiful children. Upon returning to Canada, one role Jenn-Marie took on was a Patient Care Coordinator in a holistic fertility clinic. Here she worked closely with herbalists, acupuncturists, and TCMs.

It was life-changing, and what brought her to IHN. To gain a deeper understanding of holistic principles Jenn-Marie is moving through IHN's program. She often remarks on how much she loves the inspirational students, staff and faculty. Since March 2018, she has worked from the Vancouver campus as the Student Services Administrator and Liaison. Jenn-Marie is dedicated to cultivating a supportive, stimulating, and inclusive environment that allows students to reach their fullest potential. She encourages academic, personal achievement and advancement, facilitating positive student experiences.

When Jenn-Marie isn’t riding her bike to work, look for her kayaking at Jericho, paddle boarding at Eagle Harbour, skiing at Cypress, or hiking the North Shore Mountains. Jenn-Marie loves to share the joy and peace that meditation, Satsang, and Kirtan bring into her life.

Key Nutrition Concepts, Client Protocol Development & Nutritional Science

We logged into a Nutritional Symptomatology Part 1 lecture with Jennifer Papaconstantinou to capture an image of the students learning mid-class. In this moment, they were learning about an amazing group of compounds known as Vitamin K. This course is a favourite amongst students because they get to apply the nutrition and health theory they have learned to real-life case studies. In this course, students understand the clinical assessment of nutritional status by interpreting physiological symptoms and their relationships to nutritional deficiencies and excesses. They learn the inter-relationships that exist between nutrients and how these play a critical role in determining optimal nutritional requirements. Students will develop foundational as well as specific protocols for balanced nutritional health. The course presents an understanding of how physiological symptoms reflect and determine one’s nutritional status. Students learn the essential principles of biochemical individuality and how this plays a critical role in determining optimal nutritional requirements, specific nutritional deficiencies, and toxicities.

Biomarkers That Change The Way Practitioners View Cellular Health, Intestinal & Liver Function

Transformation, energy, change. These are the hallmarks of metabolism. The name given to the vital chemical processes that are critical for life itself. For each and every one of us, nutrition ignites the process that allows our body to derive the vital nutrients we need for our metabolic pathways to function optimally, and thrive.

Holistic nutritionists are in a valuable position to advise their clients on how important the control of oxidative stress and inflammation is to their wellbeing and how one can now reliably determine general digestive function, liver detoxification, and mucosal intestinal barrier integrity, via the use of screening tests offered by FLUIDS iQ.

How Trees Can Help You Find Health & Happiness

Bathing amongst the trees is as essential to some as bathing in water. Forest bathing, an idea that started in 1982 in Japan, is a meditative walk in the woods connecting you with nature. A single session can have a transformative effect, as you slow your breathing and release stress. Forest Guide, Carol Burnup, explains in an April 12, 2021, Canadian Geographic article (3 minute read), “Using Nature as Medicine,” that you don’t need a forest nearby to benefit. "You can go to your backyard...your local park...or you can sit next to a plant in your apartment or your house."

Tahini is a paste made from either toasted or raw, ground sesame seeds that has a light, nutty flavour. Some compounds in tahini are highly anti-inflammatory. Although short-term inflammation is a healthy and normal response to injury, chronic inflammation can be damaging to health. Studies have discovered that sesamin and other sesame seed antioxidants may ease inflammation and pain related to injury, lung disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. Tahini is a great source of phosphorus and manganese, both of which play vital roles in bone health. Try these Grain-Free Tahini Brownies from IHN graduates Tamara Green and Sarah Grossman
