14.5 million Americans signed up for ACA Marketplace Health Insurance from Nov. 1 through Jan. 15, a 21% increase from the prior year. Click here to learn some of the reasons why.

Last week, the administration announced that lower income uninsured families will have some extra time to get enrolled in coverage. Families with income less than 150% FPL qualify for a special enrollment period from March through at least the end of 2022. For a single person, 150% of the poverty level amounts to an income of no more than $19,320. Statewide Focus Groups Reveal Major Barriers to Obtaining Quality Healthcare

To better understand the complex challenges of healthcare access and affordability in Illinois and across the country, Shriver Center on Poverty Law and Altarum Institute conducted a series of focus groups with a diverse group of uninsured and underinsured Illinois residents. DuPage Health Coalition Silver Access members were invited to participate in the dialogue and share their perspective.

Shriver Center’s Associate Director of Healthcare Justice Stephani Becker shared that the focus groups “revealed that major barriers exist in in terms of the cost and complexity of health care coverage in Illinois.” She added, however that discussions with Silver Access members offered a notably different perspective. “Silver Access members were universally pleased with their coverage and said that with Silver Access’ help they felt especially grateful that they were able to afford a quality health plan that covered the doctors and specialists that they wanted to see. We think that Silver Access DuPage is a model for what Illinois could do statewide to improve affordability of Marketplace coverage.” We agree! Click here to read the top findings.
