Keeping the 'Public' in Public Health
|
|
As we look ahead using science, CDC guidance, and the promise of vaccine availability and accessibility, the Rutgers School of Public Health anticipates being able to resume in-person course instruction that follows indoor occupancy limits set by Rutgers for the Fall 2021 semester.
Summer 2021 courses will continue to be delivered remotely.
In support of Rutgers’ commitment to health and safety for all members of its community, the University will be updating its immunization requirements for students to include the COVID-19 vaccine. This health policy update means that, with limited exceptions, all students planning to attend in-person courses in the Fall 2021 semester must be fully vaccinated. In parallel, we continue to strongly urge all Rutgers faculty and staff to get immunized against COVID-19 at the earliest opportunity.

"When Peter Parker gets bitten by a radioactive spider, he's not able to climb walls right away," said Vincent M. Silenzio, professor in the Department of Urban-Global Public Health when explaining why COVID-19 vaccines take two weeks to work. Similar to the bite that endows Parker with certain spider-like superpowers, the Covid vaccines — which afford people a high level of protection against this still relatively new human disease — take a period of time to kick in.
