Health & Safety Update
COVID-19 Cases
Between April 15 and April 28, there were 39 new COVID-19 cases in the Brunswick School Department:
Cumulative statistics on all COVID-19 cases during the 2021-22 school year are available on the COVID-19 Dashboard.
COVID Testing Update
As we reported earlier, the State of Maine is discontinuing pooled testing on May 13. BSD nurses still have an inventory of BinaxNOW rapid antigen tests and will continue to test members of the Brunswick School Community who are experiencing symptoms. We will also be distributing at-home test kits from Maine DHHS for every student and staff member. Those test kits have now arrived. We aim to distribute them the week of May 2. More information on this is forthcoming.

As a reminder, at-home tests are still available through theFederal Free COVID Tests ProgramandProject Access COVID tests (ACT)

With the new reliance on at-home tests, it is even more important to notify your school nurse when you/your child tests positive for COVID-19. We have developed school-specific forms to complete when your/your child tests positive for COVID. Links to the forms are on the school webpages. Simply click the REPORT POSITIVE COVID-19 TEST RESULTS on your school’s webpage. Links to each form can also be found on the district webpage and below:

StopHazing
The Brunswick School Department has partnered with Dr. Elizabeth Allan and Dr. Dave Kerschner from StopHazing. StopHazing’s mission is to promote safe and inclusive school, campus, and organizational environments through research, resource sharing, and the development of data-driven strategies for hazing prevention and the promotion of positive group climates.

As a follow-up to the Brunswick High School student, staff, and parent/guardian surveys distributed earlier in April, StopHazing will be conducting individual interviews and focus groups with members of the Brunswick High School community during the months of May and June. These interview and focus group sessions—which will be approximately 45 minutes to an hour in length—will occur virtually using Zoom and will provide an opportunity to share one's perspectives about school climate and co-curricular experiences. Sessions will be scheduled primarily in the evening (5 pm to 8 pm) during the week, with the possibility for some sessions occurring during the weekend or at other times to accommodate those who cannot make weekday evenings work and wish to participate.

Brunswick community members that would like to participate in the individual interviews and/or focus groups, please take a moment and complete this short survey.
