St. Basil the Great gave us words in the Fourth Century to reflect upon: “True fast is the estrangement from evil, temperance of tongue, abstinence from anger, separation from desires, slander, falsehood, and perjury. Privation of these is true fasting.” On this day of Lenten abstinence, we take care of what goes into our mouths. Perhaps it may help us to reflect or care more about what comes out of our mouths.
I do not know about you…but St. Basil’s words today are all things that I can spend some quality time working on and improving. Remember, only with the help of God can we accomplish these things. Taking up this spiritual discipline today will do more to change our hearts and build the kingdom dream.
Tomorrow, I have the privilege again this year, to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to the candidates from our parish family. We have 20 young people coming forth to accept the seal of God’s Holy Spirit and confirm their Catholic faith and continue the journey. Please pray for them as they receive this beautiful grace into their lives.
Spiritual Reflection: “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”
Continuing our journey,
Fr. Mark
