Dear Friend,

Please join us online next Wednesday, May 5 at 7:30pm, for a conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz. The pre-recorded interview is hosted by PBD Producing Artistic Director Bill Hayes.

We conclude our Contemporary Voices series featuring Cruz’s work this evening at 7:30pm, when PBD Director of Education and Community Engagement Gary Cadwallader leads a discussion of Anna in the Tropics with Marcos Santana, who directed Monday night’s play reading, and Mirta Luaces, editor and reporter for La Guia News.

Tickets for both events are free, but reservations are required. You can make your reservations at www.palmbeachdramaworks.org or by calling the box office at 561.514.4042, x2.

Contemporary Voices is sponsored by Executive Producers Marilyn Meyerhoff and Sam Feldman, and Associate Producer Holland & Knight. PBD online is sponsored by Louise and Barry Snyder.

We’ve been telling you for quite some time now about the changes being made to the theatre to comply with the most stringent health and safety protocols. As you’re aware, we’re also in the midst of a fund-raising campaign, Take a Deep Breath, to assist us with the costs. We want to update you on our progress.

For the past year, most of our staff have been working offsite, but a few members of our team have been working at the theatre. In less than two weeks, the building will shut down and everyone will be working remotely, so that we can begin work on our new HVAC system. We currently have five different air conditioner units: two are huge – one takes care of the lobby and the second floor, the other cools the auditorium. The three smaller units serve the remainder of the building. All need to be replaced in order to ensure proper filtration and meet the new safety standards. An engineer drew up plans for the new system; the target price was $350,000. Then a general contractor put out the engineer’s drawings for bids. The system is complicated and when the bids came in, the price tag was $950,000.

Please consider donating to the Take a Deep Breath campaign. You’ll reap the rewards and breathe easy when you come back to the theatre, knowing you’re walking into a safe and sanitary environment – and you helped make it possible.

You can visit us online: palmbeachdramaworks.org/donate or mail a check payable to Palm Beach Dramaworks, 201 Clematis Street, West Palm Beach, FL 33401, or call Director of Development Carla Bryant at 561.514.4042.

Thank you for all you do.

Stay safe.
