March: The Endurance (The Life-Long Race)

Theme Song: Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us Lift Up Your Hearts #330

Theme Verse: Isaiah 40:29-31,”He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Office Reminder:

The Office and TRIP Office will be closed for Easter Break (March 28-April 1). Reminder that TRIP orders will be placed on Tuesday, April 2 instead of Monday, April 1 next week. All orders will arrive on Thursday instead of Wednesday. Have a blessed Easter!

One Arrow at a Time!:

We are very excited to begin the second stage of creating an archery program at OCCS. We have recently been awarded a grant from the DNR which will allow us to purchase 12 genesis bows, 5 Morrell targets, Easton arrows, and a drop curtain. We are also in the process of scheduling a training day in which the DNR will send a trainer and we will have certified basic archery instructors. Following that step we hope to order additional equipment by April 30th with the hope that classes and after school sessions will start this fall.

Our goal is that every child from 4th-8th has the opportunity to participate in an organized sport that promotes “Christ in all”. We feel this can be done through concentration, focus, patience, discipline, self-control and team cohesion.

We are over joyed with all the positive responses and are preparing for a larger number of students. Therefore, we are looking for a total of 20 bows, 10 targets along with additional arrows. There will also be additional needs such as school jerseys, banners, bow racks, arrow quivers, fletching tools, etc. With the beginning of a new program we are looking at a onetime starting amount of around $5000.00.

We would be very excited if you would consider a contribution at any of the four levels:

Needed:

Level I     Arrow level      $3.85/per arrow        10 dozen@$3.85         $462.00

Level II    Bow level        $122.00/per bow       20 bows@$122.00      $2440.00

Level III   Target level     $166.00/per target    10 targets@$166.00    $1660.00

Level IIII  Arrow curtain  $600.00/per curtain   1 curtain @$600.00     $600.00

It is our hope that this program will bring joy and a sense of accomplishment to our students through “one arrow at a time”.   If you have been blessed, and are able to contribute, all you need to do is write the donation to OCCS and it will be placed in a separate account.

Thank you again for your prayers and support as a new program gets underway.

Sincerely,

OCCS Archery Club

Policy on students wearing shorts:

Many students are excited about being able to wear shorts now that it is March. Just a reminder that when the forecast calls for a warmer day, that may not be the temperature at 10:00 am. The temperature at first recess could be 30 or lower which is quite cold for shorts. Long pants to cover shorts for the morning hours may work well. Please take that into account as your children get ready for school in the morning. Students are required to go outside for recess even if they are wearing shorts. Thanks!
