Girls' education is fundamental to protecting the planet. In our April newsletter, we are proud to share how AGE Africa scholars are creating positive change in their communities by taking action to prevent future destruction from floods and natural disasters.

CHATS Members Plant Trees to Prevent Future Flooding at Thuchila Community Day Secondary School

In early 2022, Thuchila Community Day Secondary School was severely damaged by Tropical Storm Ana and Cyclone Gombe. In an effort to prevent future losses, members of AGE Africa's CHATS Girls' Club planted trees around their school. The newly planted trees will help protect the school from water, wind, and rain. We celebrate the resourcefulness of each girl who participated in planting the trees and uplifting their school community. Featured Alumna: Nitah Wisbon

Meet AGE Africa alumna, Nitah Wisbon! She graduated with a bachelor's degree in education with a specialization in chemistry. As an undergraduate, Nitah focused on women’s health, particularly traditional herbal remedies used to treat vaginal yeast infections. Of the five herbs she tested, Nitah identified two herbs that had curative effects. Her hope is to have these medicines approved and accessible to all women in Malawi.   Today, Nitah works for the government as a science teacher at Ngumbe Community Day Secondary School. She continues to give back to her community by mentoring and encouraging girls to study STEM. She also inspires girls through an initiative she launched which curbs gender-based violence through poetry.
