Beautification Day at SFD

Spring has sprung! To help maintain our beautiful campus, we are asking parents and students to join us! This is also a great opportunity for students to complete service hours.

Beautification Day will take place on Saturday, May 8 from 8am to Noon. Students: sign up with Mr. Steller in the main office; Parents: please email Mrs. Lisa Lawson at lawsonl@desales.co.
Who Will You Honor?
Stallions in the Spotlight
Freshman Taylor Dreska, with her brother John '20, had the honor of participating in the Army officer promotion ceremony for their dad, John M. Dreska, when he was promoted from Colonel to Brigadier General. Both Taylor and John removed a Colonel rank shoulder epaulet and replaced it with the Brigadier General rank epaulet. This was made even more special as these epaulets, along with the jacket and flat cap, belonged to their grandfather, John P. Dreska, a retired Major General, who recently passed away.
After Friday's All-School Mass, Bishop Brennan blessed a newly installed statue of the Holy Family in the Sisters of St. Francis Courtyard. Superintendent Adam Dufault along with senior members from our Student Council were also there to celebrate this blessing.
Congratulations to the cast, crew, and orchestra of this year's Spring Musical, High School Musical. They performed to live and virtual audiences this past weekend. A job well done!
Last Thursday, students from various theology classes visited with the sisters from the Daughters of Holy Mary of the Heart of Jesus. The sisters were visiting Columbus from their home in Steubenville, Ohio. They shared with our students the stories of how they came to find their vocations to the religious life, as well as how we can all hear the voice of Christ calling us to our own vocations. The sisters visit St. Paul the Apostle Parish once a month to engage in Catechesis and prayer through a ministry called DOYMAR. More information about this ministry can be found on the sisters' website: https://www.hsmcj.org/ingles/doymar-ing.html or by contacting St. Paul the Apostle Parish.
SFD is sending another team to share their project at the National History Day competition. Congratulations to National Qualifiers Kate Stone and Juliana Barnhart who placed Second at the State Competition in Group Documentary (Lucasville: Through the Fence).

A special shout out also goes to the following students who placed at the State History Day, but are not advancing to Nationals: Anmarie Trolli Honorable Mention in Individual Documentary (The Navajo Code Talkers: How the Battle of Iwo Jima Depended on Them); Grace Vance 3rd Place in Individual Exhibit (Martha “The Mouth” Mitchell: The Key to Understanding Her Namesake Psychological Effect); and Ashley Allton Honorable Mention in Individual Paper ("Yours Truly, Jack the Ripper": Miscommunication and Misunderstanding in the Autumn of Terror).
On Sunday, May 2 beginning at 12pm ET, the Poetry Out Loud national semifinals will be available through a one-time-only webcast at arts.gov/poetry-out-loud. Watch senior Monserrat Tlauhel Flores as she competes to move on to the National Finals.

Students decked the halls last week to add a little more spirit to our Spring Spirit Week. The sophomore class also collected non-perishable food and personal care items to donate to W.A.R.M., showing the true spirit of our school community.

Spiritual Reflection
Christ our Good Shepherd, you tirelessly seek out the lost, and you give strength to the weary sinner. In your unfathomable mercy, you never cease to pour out blessings upon those who despair of finding you. Help us to extend this same spirit of consolation to our brothers and sisters in need, and may we always imitate your example of tender care towards the poor. We ask this in your name. Amen.
