JANUARY 2023

A NEW YEAR BRINGS NEW OPPORTUNITIES.

2023 is a year of the Rabbit.

The Rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture.

New Year’s is celebrated around the world and revelers often enjoy meals and snacks thought to bestow good luck for the coming year.

Some of these good luck items include black-eyed peas, pork, grapes or rice pudding.

Whether your celebration includes lucky foods, watching fireworks or banging pans at midnight; the feeling of renewal and opportunity fills us all with hope for a better future.

JANUARY IS RADON ACTION MONTH.

Radon is an odorless, colorless gas that is produced by the natural breakdown of uranium, which is present in soil, rocks and sometimes groundwater. January is Radon Action Month, be an informed homeowner by testing your home for radon. Radon exposure can present a significant health risk and it's entirely preventable. Breathing unsafe levels of radon can lead to lung cancer. In fact, radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, second only to smoking. There is a high radon potential because the soil in Colorado is rich in minerals, specifically uranium. When the uranium naturally breaks down in soil, rock, and water, it produces radon, which gets into the air you breathe.

A limited number of free test kits are available for Colorado residents. Get a kit at Your Health Department while supplies last. 970.874.2165
