Supporting innovative solutions in housing
The Catherine Donnelly Foundation works to transform the lives of those in underinvested communities by supporting innovative solutions in housing, adult education and the environment.
At the heart of our work is the conviction that by working collectively we can eliminate homelessness and ensure decent affordable housing, restore our climate in a just and equitable fashion and help the marginalized and those experiencing poverty empower themselves through social action.

Take action on Homelessness
This World Homelessness Week, we're asking the federal and provincial governments to provide more support for people struggling with the cost-of-living crisis in Canada—a crisis that is pushing more and more people into homelessness.
We’re demanding five policy changes that governments could implement right now to halt this growing new wave of homelessness – but we need your help to get the message across to them.
Will you take 2 minutes to send a letter with our call to actions to our Prime Minister, Housing Minister, Finance Minister, your Premier?
Abe Oudshoorn, Dr. Naomi Thulien and Mardi Daley join the podcast this week

Dr. Naomi, nurse practitioner and researcher working to eliminate the cycle of youth homelessness and Mardi Daley, Toronto-based advisor, facilitator, and certified Peer Specialist supporting youth experiencing homelessness and mental health issues discuss their presentation at CAEH’s National Conference on Ending Homelessness and the Transitioning out of Youth Homelessness clinical trial.

Employment Training Program - openings for youth in Guelph/Wellington/Dufferin
The CEC is currently conducting interviews for intake into our Connect-ED Working Circles program. We have our 7th cohort starting on November 17 or 24. We are conducting interviews of youth ages 18-30 (as of next Monday) who are generally speaking out of work and out of school, and interested in marketing, communications, administration. Youth who have some post-secondary or work experience in entry-level marketing, social media, administration would likely find this opportunity most valuable. The program includes 5 weeks of virtual training, followed by a 10-14 week paid employment placement. Youth who are in training receive a weekly living allowance at an hourly payment that equals minimum wage. They are then on the payroll with the employer. The employer is reimbursed by CEC based on invoices and payroll reports (usually 1-2x during the placement). Employers who might consider hiring the youth full-time following the placement are ideal, but we know that this is not always the case.

What we need from our community partners:

  • Spread the word to youth who may be interested in applying in Guelph/Wellington/Dufferin
  • Contact Sadia about your "spotlight project" - a design project that youth could work on for you while they are in training
  • Employers needed for youth placements - register on our link: https://tinyurl.com/Employer-CEWC
  • Attend our networking events to help youth learning the fundamentals of this skill
  • Join our program as a mentor who meets with youth 4-8 times over the 5 weeks

Please help us to spread the word to youth and employers who might be interested in this program!

Resource - How do actual core costs and project-based funding compare?
One of Imagine Canada’s current policy priorities is getting more core funding for the nonprofit sector. We created this table to compare the costs that are typically covered by project-based funding with the core operating costs for nonprofits to show the impact that a lack of core funding can have on organizations.
