LSC's Manufacturing Open House a Success!
Lake Superior College hosted the annual Integrated Manufacturing Open House at the Downtown Center last Thursday. With strong workforce demand in manufacturing, the open house came at the perfect time to help recruit and prepare students for a successful career right out of school.
"We're really fortunate to have instructors, deans and administrators that are well connected in the community so they know where the jobs are. So a lot of times our students have jobs lined up before they even graduate. Right now in manufacturing, we have a 100% job placement rate. So, this is really a great time to get into manufacturing," said Daniel Fanning, Vice President of Advancement.
Over twenty guests attended, and several others scheduled individual tours in the near future. Thank you to everyone involved in helping make the open house such a success including faculty and staff downtown, our admissions/recruitment and marketing teams, advising, and current students who took time to explain to tour guests why they enjoy being in the program.

LSC Faculty Jody Ondich Publishes New Book
Jody Ondich, LSC philosophy/humanities faculty, has published a new OER textbook. World Religions: the Spirit Searching examines how humans across the globe and throughout millennia have searched for answers to questions like, “why are we here?” or “what am I supposed to do with my life?” The answers people have found, or created, or chosen, have varied as widely as the cultures and people themselves. Congratulations, Jody!

Mask Up and Take the Shot, IceHawks!
Safety remains our highest priority. Masks/face covering continue to be required inside all public spaces on all Lake Superior College campus locations, regardless of vaccination status.
Vaccinations: Minnesota State is following the guidance from the State of Minnesota and Minnesota Department of Health on vaccinations of our students and employees. An all employee email went out on September 8, and is also available on the website.
All state workers, including all LSC employees, must either be fully vaccinated or be tested for COVID every week. Employees are able to find additional information on available vaccines at www.mn.gov/covid19. While students are not currently required to be vaccinated (with exceptions in some programs, including some healthcare programs), we are strongly encouraging all students to get vaccinated as soon as possible. The most effective way we can reduce the spread of COVID-19 and avoid further restrictions as we move forward is to get vaccinated as soon as possible, if you’re not already. For more information on this and how to find a vaccine location, please visit mn.gov/covid19/.

Please consider being part of the Bandana Project and attend training to become a mental health advocate at Lake Superior College. You will be a safe place for someone to talk to who may be struggling. Several one-hour training date/time options are still available. Upon completion of the training you'll receive a green bandana; it is intended to identify those who are in possession of resources that can help, and it signifies an unspoken solidarity with those struggling.
