April 15, 2022

Colleagues,

We are considering holding the EPIC Annual Provost’s Reception again, after the COVID hiatus. As in the past it would be an afternoon cocktail buffet in one of the lovely Faculty House rooms. (Complete vaccination, including one booster, and evidence of a negative rapid test within 24 hours of the event would be required.) For the many of you who have attended in the past, you know that it is a wonderful afternoon of meeting with colleagues and hearing from the Provost. In the most unusual time that we are in and before we move ahead with further planning, we would like to have a better sense of your possible attendance at the event.

Thank you for your response and best wishes during this holiday season,

Tamara Telesko, Director of Wealth Planning Strategies at TIAA, is giving another talk to EPIC about navigating retirement finances. Her previous presentations have been informing and well received. She is speaking on the following topics and taking your questions:

· Changes from 2021 to 2022 in regulations governing retirees (e.g., changes in Minimum Required Distribution regulations and contributions to IRAs).

· Deductibility of contributions to charity from Minimum Required Distribution.

· Changes in Federal or State estate tax rates or policies that might be of interest.

· The use of trusts to accomplish estate planning objectives.

· For those just planning to retire: (a) a checklist of things to do—Medicare Part B and Part D (regulations governing premiums relating to income level); (b) the importance of estate planning with respect to 403b and IRA inheritance, avoiding probate, and so on.

Online EPIC Yoga

Every Thursday

10–11am and 11:15am–12:15pm

Yoga

Professor Emerita Virginia Papaioannou, a registered teacher with the Yoga Alliance, leads EPIC Yoga. No prior experience is required to join. Yoga can benefit people at all levels of physical training and health, but it is always wise to consult with a physician before undertaking any new exercise regime. Modifications will be offered to any participants with specific limitations arising from recovery from injury, arthritis, limited movement, or other causes.

Two one-hour classes are offered each week. The 10–11am class practices breathing techniques and moves through some basic yoga poses, concentrating on alignment, balance, and flexibility. Those with experience move more deeply into the poses. From 11:15am–12:15pm, we practice gentle/chair yoga, which is ideal for those of more limited mobility or flexibility. Classes include breathing, stretching, and yoga poses, done either seated in a chair or standing. No yoga mats are required for this class.
