What a tumultuous few years for everyone but particularly those in education! I hope you have been able to depend on your colleagues, both near and far, for inspiration and encouragement. Since I entered the field of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) in the mid 1990s as a high school teacher in Oklahoma, my FCS family have been essential to my professional and personal well-being. Following a spouse to multiple states, I found “my people” everywhere we moved. My sister commented once that, each time I had to move, I landed on my feet (professionally), and this is due to my FCS connections as well as taking advantage of the opportunities we have as FCS education professionals.
As I leave the FCS division in Dr. Katy Blatnick-Gagne’s capable hands, I have been reflecting on my time on the ACTE Board of Directors. Representing the FCS Division on the board was on my professional bucket list for many years, and it did not disappoint! Working with the ACTE staff and the other Board members has been a wonderful experience, and I highly encourage others to consider the opportunity. A unique aspect of being the FCS Division VP is that you also attend FCCLA Board meetings. My continued involvement with FCCLA, which started as a high school student member, has only reinforced my support and respect for our CTSO.
I look forward to continuing my volunteer work within the FCS Education world and hope to see each of you at CareerTech VISION 2022.

Regards,
Carol Werhan
