President’s Message

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year celebration. The question on everyone’s mind is “When are the trails going to open?” Our trails have been brushed, signed, and inspected. Our groomer drivers and equipment are ready to go. However, we are missing two important things, cold and snow. The weather here in the Northwoods has been exceptionally mild. The forecast for early January is for colder temperatures with snow to follow. Let’s hope that the weather forecaster is wrong, and it gets very cold and snowy quicker. You can keep up to date on the trails by checking our Facebook page and website.

We had a great Bo-Boen Christmas party at the Whitetail Inn. Thank you to Shelby Szott, Roxanne Platz, and Ed Siergiej for organizing this fun event. And a big thank you to all who donated food and money for the Vilas County Food Pantry, and to the Secret Santa and his Helper who matched the cash contributions. This was very generous.

We also held our Snowmobile Safety Class in December. Thank you, Peggy Ausloos, for organizing this event and all the volunteers and instructors that made it successful.

Just a reminder, we have two important fundraising events coming up in February. Hiller’s Radar Run is February 2nd and 3rd, and the Arrowhead Groomer Show is February 7th and 8th. We still have open slots for volunteering at the Radar Run. We will be providing food and beverages for both events and assisting with parking at the Radar Run. Please consider helping at these events. Just follow the link in this newsletter to the volunteer schedule.

In March, we will have our annual election for all officer positions and two director positions. Please give serious consideration to running for these positions. This is a good opportunity to become actively involved in snowmobiling and your Club. If you have any questions or interest, please give me a call, or send me an email.

Let’s all do our part to keep our trails safe and enjoyable by riding on our side of the trail and respecting our landowners by staying on the trail. As always, think snow and please patronize and thank our map advertisers; they are a big part of the success of our trail system.

Roger Klein, President

From The Trail Boss

Hello everyone,

The trails and equipment are ready to go. We have all done our part and now Mother Nature can do hers! So, THINK COLD AND THEN SNOW!

Fred Suchy

Looking for Volunteers!

Do you want to have some fun and help your Club raise money to keep our trails well groomed? Well, here’s your chance! The Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club is selling food and beverages at Hiller’s Radar Run February 2-3, and at the Arrowhead Groomer Show February 7-8.

  • The Radar Run is the largest winter lake race in Wisconsin. We need volunteers to grill, serve, and collect money in our heated tent. For those of you who enjoy volunteering outside, we will also be coordinating parking and traffic control. Donated baked goods are also needed.

Click this link to sign up to help: Hiller’s Radar Run

Questions? Food tent volunteers should contact Dianne Dieter at 715-891-4830. Parking volunteers should contact Roger Klein at 715-477-8570.

  • The Arrowhead Groomer Show is presented by Hamblen Equipment. Representatives from clubs across the Midwest come to test and purchase new equipment manufactured right here in St. Germain. We need volunteers to grill, serve, and collect money at our indoor concession stand. Donated baked goods are also needed.

Snowmobile Safety Class a Success

On December 9th and 10th, Bo-Boen hosted a Safety Class taught by DNR Certified Instructors. All 37 students received their certification thanks to the efforts of our instructors: Peggy Ausloos, Ozzie Ausloos, Roger Klein, Fred Suchy, Jim Promer, Bill Humphrey, Joe Domenico and Kirby Giampa. They were also assisted by DNR Warden Tim Price and Vilas County Deputy Will Krueger.

The students were given the opportunity to see a groomer close up and learn what to do when meeting a groomer on the trail, thanks to Fred and Kirby. They also had a chance to review the parts of a snowmobile and demonstrate riding positions etc., thanks to Rock’s Rent-All who provided the sleds. AJ Kreager, KAOS representative (Kids and Adults On Sleds), gave a presentation on the importance of youth involvement in snowmobiling and snowmobile clubs.

A huge thank you goes out to our MANY volunteers and bakers for the lunch, cookies/brownies and class assistance. Thanks also to Kozar Technologies and Ed Siergiej for the use of the sound system.

The Apple Dumpling Gang

Whenever winter arrives and trails are open, we will begin riding to lunch on Wednesdays. Meet at the Bo-Boen groomer barn at 9 a.m., ready to go with cash and a full tank of gas. And extra gas in my case.

The overnight trip to Konteka in White Pine, Michigan is January 23-25, and all 12 available rooms are taken. If you want to join us, you can check room availability at the AmericInn in Silver City. It is about 8 miles from White Pine. If you do that I will need to know by January 19th for meal planning at Konteka.

Watch your email for possible lunch invites before we get snow.

Think SNOW!

Bo-Boen Trail Updates

There is a section of Bo-Boen Trail #7 (BB 7) CLOSED between TIN 287 and TIN 288. This trail is known to some as the Goat Trail. The trail was CLOSED due to numerous trespassing issues and is no longer shown on the printed and many online trail maps. Please obey the TRAIL CLOSED signage.

Below are two suggested alternate routes to Eagle River. A reroute is being worked on for the 2024/2025 season.

Due to property development, Bo-Boen Trail #18 (BB 18) had to be rerouted. The trail behind Mar-Li’s is now closed and has been rerouted to cross HWY 155 just east of P-Dog’s Snowmobile Rentals (Pit Stop #49). Mar-Li’s (Pit Stop #43) is still accessible from BB 18.

Please follow the trail signage for safe passage through this area.

The Snowmobile Route along Gravel Pit Road leading to the Vilas County Gravel Pit has been moved to a new Trail Corridor 15 to avoid increased vehicle traffic and provide for safer passage between TIN #294 and TIN #283. The new trail, which runs parallel to the route, was a joint effort among the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club, St. Germain ATV Club, the Town of St. Germain, and Vilas County.

Snowmobiling in the Vilas County Gravel Pit area is prohibited. Please obey the directional signage posted along the new trail.
