Firefighter Fist Bump
Many thanks to the East Goshen Fire Department who came out not once, but twice this week to talk to our friends about fire safety for National Fire Prevention Month. We learned how even the littlest people can help prevent fires, got a close-up look at all of the equipment and watched a firefighter suit up, from boots to oxygen mask! We know how to recognize a helper when we see one!

From the Head of School
Dear Goshen Families,

Hello on this balmy October day! It has been a very warm week, and the children have taken full advantage! One minute they are running freely on the playground, the next they are snacking on the terrace (this is what I call the walkway in front of the classroom building!), then they are riding their cozy coupes in the driveway and making rock soup in the outdoor kitchen. It's great to be a kid at Goshen Friends School!

I looked at my calendar this morning and was shocked to realize that Halloween is just two weeks away. I don't know how that happened! I thought this would be a good opportunity to share our plans for the occasion.

Plan A - Halloween Drive-Thru Parade! Families are invited to drive through and see the children dressed up in their costumes! The children will be stationed at the lower playground fence, waving to the cars as they drive through the lower end of campus. Froggies, Ladybugs and Bumblebees parade Thursday, October 28; Owls, Bears and Butterflies parade Friday, October 19. Parades begin both days at 9:15 am.

A few requests:

  • Families are encouraged to carpool - one car per student, if possible.
  • Each car should drive through no more than two times.
  • Cars should drive through slowly, but please do not stop to get out or take pictures. We will share lots of photos, we promise!
  • When choosing a costume for your child, please refrain from scary makeup and masks, and leave the pretend weapons at home. Thank you!

Plan B - Kids Only Grange Parade! In the event of rain, the children will parade for each other in the Grange building. Due to health and safety protocols, families would not be able to attend, but we will make a video to share on our YouTube channel.

We will keep an eye on the weather and will confirm our plans Halloween week.

I also wanted to take a moment to welcome another new Ladybug. Welcome
Elijah Laughlin! We are so happy to have you at Goshen Friends School!

Just a quick reminder that school is closed next Thursday for a teacher in-service day and again on Friday for a very mini fall break.

Have a wonderful weekend!

In Friendship,
Mimi
Seen & Heard...
Froggies!
They are the littlest friends at Goshen, but they are a mighty group of learners! They are busy in the classroom, on the playground, in their specials classes and all around. They are the Froggies!
The Froggies kicked off the school year by spending each morning on the playground, and boy did we warm up quickly! We love the spring riders, the train and the slides. But nothing beats some trucks and a good old-fashioned sand pit!
Now that we are used to our routines, we start off most days with free play in the classroom. We love to make sandwiches for our teachers in the kitchen, cut and mold playdough into fun shapes, paint at the easel, and play with the many cars and trucks.
We love our specials classes! This particular day we were making mud pies in the outdoor classroom with Tr. Jaime. We got a little dirty, but that's OK. We washed our hands at the outdoor sink when we were done!
Another fun specials class is art with Tr. Chris. We learn about colors, shapes and lines. Recently, we started work on a cat sitting on a fence. We feel like true artistes when we visit Tr. Chris's art studio!
We are learning lots of important things in school, like how to share, how to follow directions, and how to make friends. We are even learning how to play with each other!
We got a real treat this week when the firefighters came to school and taught us all about fire safety. They even let us take a picture in front of the fire truck!
It's already October, which means we are learning about spiders and bats! Soon our classroom will be filled with our creature-inspired arts and crafts!
Thanks for reading all about the Froggies class. We hope you learned something you didn't already know about us! It's great to be a Froggy!

Extended Care is excited to announce that we are bringing back two very popular programs: Pizza Pie Days and Arts & Crafts!

Beginning in November, we will offer Pepper Mill pizza every Tuesday and Wednesday. Pizza days are just $5 extra over the regular hourly rate of $11, and include pizza, fruit, water and a dessert.

Then, on Mondays and Thursdays in November, we are offering a Story and Art class and on the same days in December, Holiday Crafts. There is no additional charge for the Arts & Crafts programs (regular $11 hourly care rates apply). You won't want to miss out on all the fun!

Look for more information coming next week!
