FEATHERED FRIENDS

Soon the snow will fly and it’s time to feed birds again.

Project Feeder Watch

Project FeederWatch turns your love of feeding birds into scientific discoveries. FeederWatch is a November-April survey of birds that visit backyards, nature centers, community areas, and other locales in North America. You don’t even need a feeder! All you need is an area with plantings, habitat, water or food that attracts birds. The schedule is completely flexible. Count your birds for as long as you like on days of your choosing, then enter your counts online. Your counts allow you to track what is happening to birds around your home and contribute to a continental data-set of bird distribution and abundance. Click here to sign up for FeederWatch

WHITE HOUSE ORNAMENTS

And … speaking of the White House, the Tracy Library in New London has a rare display of all the official White House ornaments since 1981.

These ornaments were collected by Dolly (Delores) Harrod, a New London resident and patron, who lent them to us to display each Christmas until her death in 2006. She worked at the State Department and received an ornament each year as a gift, starting in 1981. Dolly's wishes were that her husband, Jack, also a patron of the library, donate the entire collection to us and that he continue to purchase each new ornament. He did so until his death in 2018. Tracy Memorial Library now continues the tradition by purchasing each new years' ornament.

BOOKS

Books... are a great Christmas Gift and the perfect companion by the fireside on a long Winter’s night.

The greater Sunapee region is fortunate to have two great local bookstores.

Morgan Hill Bookstore in New London and Mainstreet BookEnds in Warner.
