Holiday Closure


All Arapahoe County offices, including the Arapahoe County CSU Extension Office, will be closed on Monday, January 1st in observance of the New Year's Day holiday.

In order to keep our 4-H families and volunteers informed on 4-H dates and deadlines, the 4-H team has created a document containing an updated list of county-wide dates and deadlines for the 4-H year. Attention Dog Members and Families!


Please register for our 1st Mandatory Information Night for Dog Members, TUESDAY, JANUARY 23, AT 6 PM VIA ZOOM. Register by clicking on the image to the right. The Companion Animal Committee looks forward to meeting with dog members and families. There will be another opportunity in-person for the month of April for new members that enroll by the deadline of April 1.

Due to the dog respiratory virus, dog practices will resume at the Fairgrounds in January. There will be no practices in December. Janele, the dog leader, will let you know when the first practice will be in January. If you should have specific questions, please email Janele Caldwell at janele.caldwell@yahoo.com or call/text 303-880-5538. 

Shooting Sports

Arapahoe County 4-H Shooting Sports Safety Training – February 3 & February 24



There are two dates scheduled for the mandatory Safety Meeting. It will be held in the east wing of the fairgrounds, prior to the indoor practice. You MUST attend one: Feb 3, 1 p.m. or February 24, 1 p.m.

Are you interested in becoming a 4-H Certified Shooting Sports Leader? The Arapahoe County 4-H Shooting Sports Project is in need of additional volunteers to help support the growing program! We are trying to offer more practices, events, and other activities but need dedicated volunteers who are willing to get involved. This is an incredible opportunity to support a rapidly growing project in the Arapahoe County 4-H Program. This includes trainings, coaching, and developing connections with other leaders from across the state! If you are interested, please email Hannah at hhenderson@arapahoegov.com for more information!

  • March 1-3, Morgan County - (Rifle, Pistol, Archery, Shotgun)
  • March 8-10, Pueblo County – (Rifle, Pistol, Archery, Shotgun, Muzzleloader, Hunting & Outdoor Skills, Western Heritage)
  • March 15-17, Weld County – (Rifle, Pistol, Archery, Shotgun)
  • March 22-24, Garfield County - (Rifle, Pistol, Archery, Shotgun, Muzzleloader, Hunting & Outdoor Skills, Western Heritage)
  • All workshops are tentative and may be cancelled or adjusted for reason including but not limited to low registration numbers, inclement weather, etc.

FYI Livestock Families!


The Fair Planning Committee wanted to give you all a heads up that, due to increased costs, the Drug Test/Retinal Scan fees this year will be $10 per animal instead of $7 per animal like last year.

Arapahoe County 4-H MQA – February 3


The Meat Quality Assurance Program is a requirement for our county fair. All new livestock members and members that aged up as of 12/31/2023 (aged up youth are those in their first year as an intermediate, age 11, or first year as a senior, age 14) are required to attend a MQA training.

 

Our first MQA will be offered on Saturday, February 3 (10:00 AM) at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds. Email Hannah at hhenderson@arapahoegov.com to RSVP.

More Opportunities

CSU Extension Arapahoe County is seeking your input on our Advisory Committee! CSU Extension offers a variety of programs for Arapahoe County including Colorado Master Gardener, Native Plant Master, 4-H, Cottage Food Safety, Finances, Nutrition, and more.


The Advisory Committee for CSU Extension in Arapahoe County is a group of community members who volunteer to help identify local needs as they relate to broader issues identified by the county, state, or national advisory groups and the Extension staff. Committee members provide suggestions in determining program priorities for the county and serve as a support base for Extension Staff.


Community members are appointed to the Advisory Committee by the Arapahoe County Board of County Commissioners.

The committee meets quarterly at the Arapahoe County Extension Office or virtually.


If you are interested in applying to serve on the committee, please visit the Arapahoe County Citizen Boards and Committees website and scroll down to the CSU Extension Advisory Committee. Click on the “Apply” button.

Regional Creative Cooks Contest


The Regional Creative Cooks Contest will be held on Saturday, February 24 at Adams County Regional Park in Henderson.


The Creative Cooks contest is a fun contest where you can learn more about and be creative with meal planning. You select a theme, prepare food and create a table setting around your chosen theme. In this contest you use your knowledge of nutrition, meal planning, and food preparation in a creative way The Front Range Regional 4-H Creative Cooks Contest is open to any 4-H member, between the ages of 5 and 18, who enjoy cooking. Members must be enrolled in 4-H in one of the following counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Jefferson, Larimer or Weld. Members can participate as an individual, team or club.

In order to offset the cost of this contest, there is a $6 entry fee per person.

Arapahoe County 4-H Foundation Scholarship Application Available!


Are you an Arapahoe County 4-H Member who is a Senior in high school this year? Are you starting to think about college scholarships? If you are, the Arapahoe County 4-H Foundation scholarship application is now available! Click on the image to the left to access the application. Once on the 4-H Foundation page, scroll down to "4-H Foundation Scholarship Application 2024".


It's never to early to start the application process. The application is due 2/1/24 to Shaylen. Interviews will be held on 2/28/24, so save that date if you are going to be applying!

Colorado 4-H Scholarship applications are NOW OPEN!


There are opportunities available for a variety of students, including for those attending CSU or other universities, trade school, junior colleges, transfer students, and continuing students.
