Our Legislative Review Committee reviews legislation that could impact our businesses and the Maritime Affairs Committee held its first meeting after being on hiatus for a couple of years. More to come from all of these engaged groups.

U.S. Chamber Updates

New Chamber Report Reveals Digital Trade’s Enormous Benefits

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce released a report showing digital trade—from telemedicine to GPS-enabled cars to streaming movies—supports more than 3 million American jobs. The digital economy fuels growth, prosperity, and dynamism across the U.S., accounting for $2.6 trillion in GDP in 2022, a sum equivalent to 10% of all U.S. economic output.

The report shows the vast increase in digital trade across states and breaks down on a state-by-state basis how many jobs are supported by digital trade, as well as revenue earned through digital exports.

To access the report, and to see how digital trade delivers for America, your state, and your district, click here.

New Coalition to Protect U.S.Innovation from Government Confiscation

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is partnering with entrepreneurs and advocates to launch a coalition to counter emerging policy threats to U.S. innovation from excessive government overreach, also known as "march-in rights." This includes a recent Biden Administration proposal allowing the government to "march-in" and seize the intellectual property (IP) rights held by an American company if it received any federal funding for research, including in conjunction with universities.

However, proposals from Washington pose a threat to progress and risk fostering a hostile environment for U.S. innovation and IP rights.

In response, the U.S. Chamber today announced the creation of the Business Alliance to Stop Innovation Confiscation Coalition (BASIC Coalition), bringing together diverse voices from the energy, technology, manufacturing, telecommunications, semiconductors, and pharmaceutical industries who share a common belief in the benefits of public-private partnerships to deliver solutions, solve problems, and enhance lives.

The Guam Ko'ko' Road Race is Guam's elite running event, so named to raise awareness of the plight of Guam's territorial bird, the Guam rail or commonly known as the Ko'ko'. A flightless bird endemic to Guam, the ko'ko' population was decimated to near extinction by the brown tree snake, pesticides and other introduced detractors. Efforts to save the ko'ko' from extinction are ongoing and public awareness and community involvement inspired by events such as the Guam Ko'ko' Road Race and the Guam Ko’ko’ Kids Fun Run have made a remarkable impact.
