Choosing Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
The green path to a cleaner home
As champions of cleanliness, it's imperative for us to not only prioritize the cleanliness of your homes but also the health of our planet. You can start making a difference by making simple swaps in the cleaning products you use every day.

Opt for products with natural, plant-based ingredients rather than harsh chemicals. Ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, lemon, and essential oils are effective and gentle alternatives to synthetic chemicals.

Steer clear of cleaning products containing phosphates, chlorine, ammonia, and synthetic fragrances. These chemicals can be harmful to both the environment and your health.

Shining a Light on Alva Ellis
10 years of service and counting
When Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Project Manager Alva Ellis was hired by Sunshine Founder Larry Calufetti in 2014, he promised he would stay at Sunshine “until the job is done,” recalled Alva. Ten years later, he remains a devoted Sunshine employee.

He began his career at Sunshine working at Broward College South, where his previous experience with medical clean rooms was needed at a new dental clinic. Promoted to manager of the college campus, he added quality control at the airport to his duties. By 2016, he because the fulltime manager at the airport.

Before joining Sunshine, he worked for 25 years in the cruise industry working for Carnival Cruise Lines. He also worked for a major janitorial services firm, supervising such facilities as the University of Miami Medical Campus, Miami International Airport, and Boston Scientific in the City of Doral. The cruise line experience, which involved having to deal with hundreds of backed-up toilets, inspired him to invent the “Ready Cover,” which is available online.

The resident of Miramar and native Jamaican says that the challenge and culture keep him planted at Sunshine. “It’s different and I love the challenge,” he said. “Larry created a special family culture and I do my best to help continue that with a ‘keep it simple’ philosophy.”

When he’s not working, Alva enjoys time with his family and folding towels into the shape of animals.

Green Cleaning is Good For Your Business
A step toward sustainability
Editor’s note: Excerpted with permission from Pritchard Industries.

Individuals and companies today are more aware of and concerned about environmental impacts and are looking for ways to improve their footprints. Business owners, particularly, are eager to learn new ways to transition to more eco-friendly practices. Green commercial cleaning and knowing the benefits of green cleaning for businesses is the perfect place to start.

What is green cleaning?

It's the use of eco-friendly, non-toxic, or biodegradable solutions for cleaning both indoor and outdoor spaces. Green cleaning also emphasizes waste reduction, water conservation, and sustainable products.

In the interest of hygiene and sterility, many businesses often use common cleaning chemicals to remove bacteria and germs. These harsh cleaning products can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory system. When washed down drains, they can also damage the environment and delicate ecosystems outdoors.

In contrast, green cleaners have no toxic chemicals and are safe for people and the environment. New technologies are changing the future of cleaning and green products can completely eliminate bacteria and germs with none of the dangers of chemical products. Here are some of the most exciting benefits of green cleaning for businesses.

Benefits of Commercial Green Cleaning Products

First and foremost, switching to non-toxic cleaning products will minimize the harmful byproducts a business puts into the atmosphere. The benefits include preserving the local ecosystem, conserving natural resources, and lowering the carbon footprint. Green cleaning products don't emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that reduce air quality and they are quickly biodegradable. This means businesses can improve the air quality inside their operations as well as the impact on the local ecosystem
