May 2020:

Niagara - we miss you! We continue to stay home to help stop the spread, and while we can't make our regular trips out and about, Destination Niagara has compiled some great ideas from local businesses to help make this time a little easier.

Spring in Niagara

May means spring flowers and since we are all doing our part by staying indoors, why not brighten up your space with some beautiful greenery and florals? Many businesses are hurting right now and local greenhouses that rely on Easter and Mother's Day sales have taken quite a big hit. We believe a little colour goes a long way and flowers can be a great way to spread some happiness and love.

Many greenhouses, farmers, and local businesses are finding creative ways to remain open during uncertain times and if you're looking for a little pick-me-up or a special gift then look no further!

European Planters - Niagara-on-the-Lake

European Planters - a family-run greenhouse that has pick-up spots at their 1499 Irvine Road location, as well as a site in Port Dalhousie. Anyone wanting to purchase flowers ahead of time are encouraged to call. Hydrangeas, Boston Ferns, hanging baskets, and other spring flowers are all available and can be purchased via e-transfer between 10-5 pm everyday.

Visit their Irvine Road location or call (905) 646-1050.

Pioneer Flower Farms - St. Catharines

Pioneer Flower Farms: A variety of fresh flowers and plants available for sale at many different locations throughout St. Catharines, Smithville, and Beamsville. Open daily from 8am-7pm, cash and e-transfer accepted. Pioneer Flower Farms is also taking part in "Niagara Grower's Unite for Charity" along with Creekside Greenhouses and Sunrise Greenhouses to raise money for the Attachment and Trauma Treatment Centre of Healing Niagara by offering specials on Mother's Day flowers.

Visit any of their locations or call (905) 246-6445.

Country Basket - Niagara Falls

Country Basket Garden Centre: Thousands of flowers, trees, shrubs, and more are housed at this garden centre on Lundy's Lane. Orders can be placed online and are available by curbside pick-up. Whether you're looking to start your own vegetable or herb garden, or plant some seeds for the future, we recommend browsing their online selection!

Support Niagara's Health Foundation

Health professionals in Niagara are playing a critical role in the response to COVID-10 and there is an increasing need for supplies and resources to keep them and the community safe. Here's how you can help support your local healthcare:

Make a Donation:

Donations will help purchase patient-care equipment and personal protective equipment such as N95 and surgical masks. Donations may be made online to  Niagara Health Foundation.

Visit  www.supportNHF.com  or email Roger Ali at  Roger.Ali@niagarahealth.on.ca  if you are able to contribute.

Help Flatten the Curve:

The first and most important thing we can do right now is to #STAYHOME. Frequently wash your hands, be mindful of your coughing and sneezing etiquette, and avoid gathering in crowds. If you can, ask a family member or friend to help drop off groceries if you are unable to go out, or take advantage of the delivery and curbside pick-up options.

Remain Calm & Seek Medical Attention When Necessary

Niagara Health has two dedicated COVID-19 Asessment Centres (available by referral only) in St. Catharines and Niagara Falls to provide screening, assessment and testing for individuals with symptoms and who have a referral. If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19, consult the Ministry of Health's  COVID-19 self-assessment tool and then contact Public Health at (905) 688-8248 x 7019 for an initial screening.

Keep Informed:
