Gan Bet Learns about Rembrandt
In Gan Bet we learned about the artist, Rembrandt. He is famous for his paintings where his subjects are half in the dark and they have a bright glow on their faces. Sometimes the people in his pictures wore costumes. Gan Bet painted their portraits in their Purim costumes.
Motzi Matzah
Gan Aleph learned that matzah is made from flour and water. If the flour and water are mixed together longer than 18 minutes then it is chametz. After mixing the 2 ingredients, we set a timer for 18 minutes. Then we counted down the last minute. When the alarm went off Gan Aleph shouted “chametz” and we threw it into the garbage. What a fun and interactive way to learn about matzah!

Fourth Graders Learn to Play Chess
Though there might not be electives this year, all of our fourth grade students are learning the game of chess. Yavneh's own chess master, Ms. Ivette Rubio, is visiting all of the classes teaching basic game play, as well as strategy.
Coding Unplugged!
This week children in 2A learned how to do coding unplugged! Thinking like robots, the students worked in groups to write a code in order to build a pyramid out of plastic cups. This activity helped the class understand how robots and computers read codes. No technology was used and the students realized how precise codes need to be in order for robots to know exactly what to do.
Fourth Graders are Preparing for Pesach
Our 4th graders have been hard at work preparing their Divrei Torah and Haggadot for the Seder. While some have been busy at work creating presentations to give to their classmates to ready themselves for ליל הסדר, others have been spending time creating beautiful Haggadot that they will cherish forever!

6th Graders Learn about Chemical and Physical Changes through Experimentation
Dropping Mentos into soda causes the carbon dioxide to rapidly escape the bottle. Students were shown different types of soda and hypothesized which soda type would create the tallest geyser. The students concluded that Pepsi was the clear winner as it created a geyser that was taller than the Yavneh building.
Stand With Us
A speaker from the organization Stand With Us spoke to the 7th graders to launch their next unit in Advisory - "Do Not Stand Idly By"- the importance of standing up to injustice that one sees in the world. The first piece of this unit discusses standing up for Israel. Jolie Davies, from Stand With Us discussed the media bias against Israel and what we, as Americans, can do about it.
