Introducing Student Transitions & Family Programs
Student Transitions & Family Programs supports new students through their academic and social transition into the WashU community.
Each transfer student is assigned a Transfer & Exchange Student Mentor (TXSM) employed by our office. These Student Mentors will lead small groups during Winter Welcome and serve as a mentor throughout the spring semester. A TXSM will call you on January 9, before you arrive, to introduce themselves and answer any questions you may have.

Housing applications are currently open and are reviewed on a rolling basis. For those choosing to live in Residential Life-managed housing, please complete the Housing Application in your WashU Pathway as soon as possible. Learn more about completing a housing application. Contact Residential Life or call 314-935-5050 with any questions about housing.
Transfer students still in their first year will be assigned housing on the South 40. Students entering as sophomores will be assigned housing on either the South 40, the Village, or in an off-campus Residential Life-managed apartment depending on availability. Transfer students entering WashU in their junior year will be assigned housing in the Village or in an off-campus Residential Life-managed apartment depending on preference and availability.
We work diligently to meet the room preferences of our students. When demand exceeds the supply of a given room type, we are not able to meet all room preferences. If you wish to request a room change, you can access the Room Change Form via the Request Forms tab on the Housing Portal. We will not begin processing room change requests until after the first two weeks after fall classes begin.
Renter's Insurance
WashU has partnered with GradGuard to offer renter's insurance to students. You can obtain renter's insurance through GradGuard via the Request Forms tab in the housing application.
Residential Life strongly recommends that all students obtain renter's insurance prior to their scheduled move-in date and time either through GradGuard or another provider of their choice. Residential Life is not responsible in the event of theft, destruction, or loss of money, valuables, or other personal property belonging to, or in the custody of a student, as stated in the Housing Terms and Conditions.
For those choosing to live in non-Residential Life-managed housing, we have an apartment referral service that may prove helpful as you solidify housing.

Disability Resources
Disability Resources (DR) is WashU’s designated office responsible for determining and coordinating accommodations necessary for the equitable inclusion of disabled students. DR’s goal is to enable students to accomplish their educational goals, as well as ensure an equal opportunity to derive all the benefits of campus life.
Students with disabilities who may require academic, programmatic, or housing accommodations are encouraged to engage with Disability Resources. Because accommodations are not applied retroactively, Disability Resources recommends initiating requests prior to, or at the beginning of, the academic term to avoid delays in accessing accommodations once classes begin.
Contact Disability Resources for more information.

Students interested in taking math, language classes, College Writing, general chemistry, music classes, or dance during their first semester at WashU may be required to take placement exams. Students should discuss this with their academic adviser when registering for classes.
Bearprints for Success: L43 1100
This one-credit, seven-week course is designed to help incoming students make a successful transition to WashU, both academically and personally. This course sets students on a path to academic success and community engagement through academic readings, small-group discussions, and empirically based learning activities centered on the five core anchors of Student Affairs: Healthy Excellence; Leadership; Career Development; Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion; and Student Engagement & Belonging. Over the seven weeks of the course, students will be introduced to the campus resources that will support them during their time at WashU.
Students interested in taking Bearprints for Success, L43 1100, should speak with their academic adviser when discussing their spring 2024 course schedule. Seats have been reserved in Bearprints for Success for incoming spring 2024 transfer students.
