Thank You for the
Celebration of New Ministry

Dear St. Andrew’s,

Thank you for the wonderful Celebration of New Ministry on Sunday! Bishop Anne Hodges-Copple said there is a sweet, sweet spirit in this place, and she is right. It was such a joyful day and our family will remember it always. I know that many hands and hearts worked to make it possible. Special thanks to the Celebration Committee of Shelley Kappauf (chair), Betty Atwell, Nancy Kimbrough, and Lisa Garrett; to the vestry; our staff; the altar guild; and of course, all who participated in the service, including our acolytes, vergers, ushers, and presenters. The choir and musicians were marvelous. I am still humming “O Day of Peace.” Despite the challenges of COVID, the reception on the lawn was an outpouring of hospitality that echoed those festive feasts of the bible when what was lost has been found. A huge shout out of appreciation to all who helped with the reception from food and flower preparation to tent set up to washing champagne flutes.

As we worshipped in a sea of red, I was humbled by how the Spirit is moving at St. Andrew’s. I remembered once again that it is not about me, but about us – the people of St. Andrew’s glorifying God not only with our lips, but with our lives. Several of you spoke to me about a renewed sense of love at the heart of our community. The beautiful blue vestments for Advent are a reminder of Mary and a sign of what love can do when we say yes to God. As I knelt for the rector’s prayer, I was humbled by the recognition that God truly can “do more in us than we can ask or imagine.” Jesus promises us in the Gospel of John that there is joy in our abiding with God and one another. May we carry this celebration and our prayers for one another forward as we listen together for how God is nurturing us and where God is calling us. I am grateful to serve as your rector.

In Christ’s love,
Ginny
Join Us for Worship This Sunday at 10,
In-Person and Online

We will honor creation care in our 10 a.m. worship, and will bless our animals that afternoon (more below). Everyone is welcome. Masks are required for all in attendance, and we continue to offer our worship online with a livestream of Sunday’s service.
Together for Joy: Stewardship Pledge Campaign Begins this Sunday!

Our annual Stewardship Pledge Campaign for 2022 kicks off this Sunday, October 17. Throughout the challenges of the last year and a half, we have discovered new ways of being together for worship, for service, for study, and for joy. We will carry all we have learned about God and our faithful community into the next season of our church life as we sing a new song together. Over the next four Sundays, we will celebrate God’s wonderful gifts to us as we take time with God, in prayer, to consider how we can give of our own time, talent, and treasure with joy. Pledge packets will be available before and after the Sunday service to be picked up by those attending in person, and the rest will be mailed the following week. We ask that you prayerfully consider making your pledge and returning it by November 7, when we will celebrate All Saints and all pledges will be blessed.
EYC Meets this Sunday at 5

The Episcopal Youth Community, or EYC, meets this Sunday night, 5-6:30. If you are a middle or high schooler, you are wholeheartedly invited to participate. Please contact Rachael Revell at revellr@outlook.com with questions.
Calling All Acolytes
(New and Old)!

If you are in the sixth grade or older, you are invited to serve as an acolyte worship leader. This is an important ministry in our church. Acolytes are usually scheduled once a month to help lead the liturgy. We will hold a fun and informative acolyte training and refresher this Sunday, October 17, after the 10 a.m. service until 12:15. There will be snacks! If you have questions or would like to participate in this ministry, but cannot attend the meeting, please contact Debbie Dowd at debbiedowd@mindspring.com.
St. Anne's Women’s Chapter Welcomes You

The St. Anne’s chapter of ECW (Episcopal Church Women) will meet Wednesday, October 20, at 10 a.m. in the library. Because this is our first meeting since the pandemic, it will be primarily a business meeting. Even if you are not already part of the group, we welcome you. Don’t forget your masks!
Help Us Prepare for Afghan Refugees

St. Andrew’s is joining with St. Francis Episcopal Church and with Church World Services to support an Afghan family in their upcoming resettlement process in Greensboro. The Mission and Outreach Committee has an initial budget of $5,000 to support at least one family’s housing needs for 5-6 months. Additionally, each St. Andrew’s interest group (choir, youth, vestry, etc.) will help by adopting a particular form of support for the family, such as household items or food. There will be other ways to help that involve some advance training, such as transportation assistance and educational outreach. If you would like to help in any of these ways or have questions, please contact Doug Sanecki at dpsanecki@gmail.com
It’s Almost Stew Season

Brunswick stew will soon be simmering, and you have the opportunity to be fed and feed your neighbor. For every quart of stew sold, the proceeds will be donated to the Greens and Green (SNAP) program at the Corner Farmers Market—and will be matched (yes, doubled!) by an anonymous donor. So order your stew now by emailing Sandy Shelton at sheltonsandy9496@gmail.com. The price is $10.00/quart. Sales are open through November 5, and delivery is Saturday November 13, 2-4 p.m., and after church Sunday November 14.
Need a Hymnal or Prayer Book?

If you would like to borrow a copy of the Book of Common Prayer or the hymnal to use during Sunday worship at home, please let us know. We will be happy to deliver books to you, or to have one ready for you at church to pick up. Please contact Susan at parish@standrewsgso.org or by phone.
Calling all Greeters and Newcomer Hosts

If you have served in this important ministry, we'd like to hear from you! The Invite, Welcome, Connect committee is looking to schedule teams for our in-person worship, and we would like to have our experienced team members to join us. If you have not served in the past but would like to know more, now is the time to reach out for more information. Please contact Alan Atwell at 336-706-7675 for further details.
Have You Seen Our Tablecloths?

Two long, ivory tablecloths have wandered from their home in the cedar pantry cabinets. Have you seen them? We wonder if they went home for a washing and got lost on their way back. The tablecloths fit the 8-foot tables in the Parish Hall and are very useful. If you find them, please hang them up in the pantry linens cupboard.
2019 Bazaar and Poinsettia Pictures Needed

The Deck the Halls committee kindly requests your help in a photo-finding mission. We are seeking photos of the 2019 Bazaar/Deck the Halls, and would especially love to have photos of the Christmas poinsettias sold that year, as they were beautifully arranged in the Chapel before pickup. Please contact Fran Swan, at 336-709-5147, with your finds.
Look for Your Third Quarter Giving Statement

Speaking of Calendars ...

St. Andrew’s is increasingly making use of the buildings for in-person church meetings. Please remember to send a request to the office to be sure your meeting is scheduled on the parish calendar AND that you arrive to a cooled (or heated) space, with no other group already there. Please email Susan at parish@standrewsgso.org with your requests, and look for them to appear on the facilities use calendar, which you will find on the left side of the St. Andrew’s homepage, here
