Greetings!
I hope your New Year is off to a fresh start and that you've found comfort in putting 2020 in your rearview mirror. Though last year may be behind us, its after effects are yet to be realized. Due to delayed preventative care and follow up visits, cancer diagnoses may drop in the short term, but will ultimately surge with more people receiving a late-stage diagnosis.
Every day in 2021, an estimated 5,200 Americans will learn that they have cancer and 1,670 people will die from this disease.
That's 1,898,160 people who will be diagnosed with cancer this year and 608,570 cancer deaths, according to the latest American Cancer Society (ACS) Cancer Fact & Figures report.
But with a new year comes resolutions, and CARES is standing strong in our mission to fund innovative cancer research, collaborate with the best minds in their fields, and turn fear in to hope for cancer patients everywhere. As Scott says, "We have work to do."
We will never know the lives we've saved together, but we know the consequences if we don't. I'm grateful to lock arms with you again in 2021 and stand strong for cancer patients everywhere.
With gratitude,
