Tony Brown is running for the open seat on the MIYC board. Here is Tony's Bio:
Boat: Liliana, a Cape Dory Motorsailer in C-18
Business/education background: In the 43 years since I graduated from the University of Minnesota in journalism, I became a longtime newspaper guy who later moved into corporate communications and then nonprofit management. I am now retired and live in Minneapolis. My most recent board experience was on the YMCA Wilderness Camp Menogyn Board, where I served for nine years, two as chairman.
Personal information: I am probably one of the few people alive who can say they rode their bike across the bridge, where the fuel dock is today, that used to span a marsh to the Indian Cemetery, before Ted Gary built the marina. My parents bought land at the end of Sunny Slope in 1961, and I've rarely missed a summer on the island since. My father, Bud Brown, launched an Alberg sloop in the marina in 1967, and over the years my family and I have brought wide menagerie of boats to the Island. My wife, Josephine Marcotty, and I bought our motorsailer five years ago, then became club members.
Reason I'd like to serve on the board: I'd very much like to help strengthen the future of a place that is central to my family's lives.
