Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will once again be available during parent/ teacher conferences on the evenings of Thursday, March 25th and Tuesday, March 30th. Students can purchase books during the day any day March 22nd - March 30th when parents set up an ewallet. The e-wallet feature allows students to shop and purchase books without the responsibility of carrying cash/ check back and forth from home.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences are here! PK-12 Conferences will be held March 25th from 4-8pm and March 30th from 4-8pm. Masks are required for everyone in our buildings.

K-5 Conference Link:

6-12th grade conferences are not done with a signup. Simply come to the school during conference time and meet with whichever teachers you choose.

Academics

Students in Mrs. Kayser's fifth grade class have been studying the life cycle and anatomy of butterflies. They have gotten to experience the full life cycle firsthand in the classroom!

North Linn's physics students are learning about fluid dynamics, wildfires, and circuits all at once by creating desktop fire tornadoes. They have been hard at work perfecting their vortexes with impressive results.

The 4th graders in Mrs. Schulte's class have been learning about the Underground Railroad during small group reading. After researching, the students each made a freedom quilt square that was used as a symbol to guide slaves along their journey. The students learned the basics of the sewing machine by sewing the symbols on their quilt square. They did a great job with this project!

High School News

Individual Event Speech Team

The North Linn Individual Event Speech team of Jacob Aberle, Broden Dryer, Jenna Lemley, EmmaLee Snitkey, and Kyle Williams went to the District Contest on Saturday, February 27. Between them they performed 9 events in the categories of Solo Musical Theatre, Interpretive Reading -Poetry, Interpretive Reading - Prose, and Improvisation. They received 7 Division I ratings and 2 Division II ratings. With those 7 Division I ratings, all the students will advance to the State Contest on March 13th at Cedar Valley Christian.

Future Farmers of America

Darci Rawson will be recognized as a state proficiency winner at the state FFA convention in the spring. And we have seven members who will be receiving their Iowa FFA Degree. They are Cade Haugenbury, Ashley Holub, Dylan Dudley, Kaitlyn Sommerfelt, Jill Smith, Malayna Arp, and Taylor Munson. Also, our students were interviewed for an article that was in the Iowa Farm Bureau Spokesman.

North Linn to offer IOWA BIG in 21-22!!

North Linn has partnered with Alburnett to offer our high school students a new and exciting learning opportunity. Students will be able to earn credit while working hands on with other students to solve issues that are presented by community businesses. Students will learn valuable lifelong skills while still fulfilling the requirements for high school credit. We are excited to be able to provide this opportunity to our students. Spotlight on the Happy Box Project

The Happy Box Project is brought to you by the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at North Linn with the help of Equipping Youth in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The onset of Covid-19 has restricted all of us in many ways. This "Happy Box" is designed to bring fun, family time and information about resources and services available in the North Linn Community School District area. Powerful Choices has been taught in the district for over ten years. Boxes were distributed the first week of March to students.
