Dear Asbury Friends,

On Sunday, June 27, at the 11:00 am worship service, we will be celebrating the ministry of the Reverend Lee Johnson as he transitions from full-time to part-time. We have been making plans to make this a special day to honor Lee’s wonderful ministry with us.

If you would like to contribute to the gift that we will present to Lee that day, please send your donation to the church office by Wednesday, June 23. Checks can be made payable to "Asbury" noting that it is for "Lee’s gift."

One of the things I’ve learned about Lee is that he loves a party! So let’s make this a wonderful party as we celebrate how much we love him and how much he has loved us.

Blessings,
Gayla
M&M's - Mission and Ministry Shares
For our M&M's this week (or Mission and Ministry Shares), we want to highlight the important work that is Congregational Leadership & Training. Below is an article written by our Senior Pastor, Gayla Rapp.

The United Methodist Church recognizes that we must continually be in the process of identifying, training and deploying church leaders. This leadership includes people of all ages and people who are both laypersons and clergy.

Online courses have been standard United Methodist Communications offerings for a number of years. Through online learning, over 10,000 global church leaders were trained in various communication topics between 2017 and 2019. Last year alone, the agency trained more than 3,000 church leaders from around the world. When in-person gatherings halted due to coronavirus, the communications agency responded immediately with new and updated training courses to educate local church clergy and leadership on how to effectively utilize technology to engage their congregations in a remote, virtual setting.

Total amount of M&M's for Asbury UMC: $84,559
Of that amount, $610 is for Congregational Leadership & Training

Ushers & Greeters Needed for 9 am
Outdoor Service

We need some helpers for our 9 am outdoor service! We'd love to have about 3 people each Sunday morning to help with passing out bulletins, collecting the offering, and help point people to restrooms and different classrooms in the church if needed.
Would you like to help out with this? Want more information? Contact Phyllis in the church office at 913.432.5573 or [email protected]. Thanks so much, Asbury friends!
Help with Putting Hymnals & Bibles back in the Sanctuary -
Tuesday, June 15 at 10:00 am

Now that a lot of us are vaccinated and COVID seems to be getting a little more under control with each passing day, we've decided that it's safe (and that we've really missed!) having our Bibles and Hymnals in the Sanctuary pews.

If you'd like to come help us put all of those Bibles and song books back in the pews, come join us at the church on Tuesday, June 15 at 10:00 am. Dave Burton will be on hand to help get the boxes of books and pass them out so we can have them for worship again!

If you have any questions, call the church office. Thanks so much in advance for your help!

IHN Volunteer Training Resumes on June 24!
Great news!! We have a date and location for our first in-person volunteer training for IHN since the pandemic began. It's been over a year since we've been able to have training sessions, so this is exciting! We are very much looking forward to hosting our first IHN guests of the year at Asbury during the week of July 25.

While RSVP's aren't necessary to attend training, if you are thinking about volunteering for IHN, please contact Donetta Shaner at [email protected] or Linda Stinnett at [email protected], so they can make sure enough chairs are available at the training session. All people are welcome to become a volunteer - we would love to have you and working with our IHN guests is so rewarding. Thanks, Asbury friends, for considering this wonderful mission opportunity!
