Honoring the memory and music of the late music producer busbee

The 5th Annual Scott Hamilton & Friends event in Nashville on November 21, 2021 will honor the memory and legacy of Nashville’s own Music Row veteran Michael Busbee (known professionally as busbee),who lost his battle in 2019 with Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). GBM is the most aggressive form of brain cancer.

As a sought-after songwriter and producer busbee’s talent transcended music genres allowing him to work with artists such as Daughtry, The Fray, Pink, Garth Brooks, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Maren Morris and Lady A. Throughout his career busbee was incredibly well-respected because of his genius in all aspects of music including production, songwriting with powerful, meaningful lyrics, capturing the artists authenticity and as a talented multi-instrumentalist. More than just music and the true legacy left behind is that busbee was an incredible husband, father, friend and mentor…..a legacy that will play on in the hearts of everyone that he touched.

Gone too soon at the age of 43, Scott Hamilton and CARES are honored to present the 5th Annual Scott Hamilton & Friends show in his memory. Proceeds from the show will fund targeted cancer research for Glioblastoma Multiforme in busbee’s name honoring his influential life and legacy in music. The musical artists performing during the Bridgestone Arena show will be performing songs written and/or produced by busbee ensuring his music legacy lives on with purpose.

1984, oh what a year…..

The year was 1984, Prince released Purple Rain, MTV hosted the first video music awards, Footloose danced the way into movie goers hearts, the late Alex Trebek debuted as the host of Jeopardy, Papa John’s Pizza opened its first pizza joint and it was the year Scott Hamilton won the Olympic gold medal in men’s figure skating.

Little did Scott know that while he was flipping into the hearts of America, the same year the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to several scientists for their work and discoveries in immunology…a foreshadowing of the advocacy work that would become Scott’s passion in the 40 years after winning the Olympic gold. Scott founded CARES to honor his mother who died of cancer and is dedicated to changing the future of cancer by funding advanced, innovative research that treats the cancer while sparing the patient which includes immunotherapy.

American Underdog

From the directors of I Can Only Imagine, the Erwin Brothers proudly present the inspiring story of Kurt Warner, football legend, in American Underdog this December. Just as Scott Hamilton has overcome adversity throughout his life and career so too has Kurt Warner, which is why CARES is proud to support this inspiring story.

“American Underdog is a beautiful story that inspires on every level. Kurt Warner never quit in any aspect of his life. His dream to play in the NFL was rooted in tenacity, love, perseverance, unwavering faith and the understanding that the only failure is to quit. Everyone will find a connection in this story that will inspire them to stay in the game because that is the only way to win.” – Scott Hamilton
