Video is now available of the third webinar in our series, What is Right for Me in My Prostate Cancer Treatment?, a discussion on Biomarkers. Biomarkers are measurements that give information about the activity of cancer and potential response to therapy. These can be measured in blood, but also include imaging findings. The use of biomarkers may help men personalize therapy more effectively and may contribute to understanding response to treatment. The webinar was recorded on May 20th and features Dr. Daniel Spratt - the Vincent Smith Professor and Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology at UH Cleveland Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. ZERO's inaugural Racial Disparities in Prostate Cancer Symposium is Thursday, June 24th from 10:00am-2:00pm (ET). The event Keynote Speaker is Kevin Clayton, Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement for the Cleveland Cavalier Operating Company. Join us to hear from Kevin and directly from members of ZERO's Racial Disparities Task Force, learn about racial disparities in prostate cancer treatment and outcomes, explore structural racism and how it affects Black men, get informed on important research programs aimed at better understanding racial disparities in prostate cancer, and hear tips on how the most high-risk men can become empowered and active participants in prostate cancer screening and treatment decision-making. AnCan/Us TOO are kicking off a series of webinars focused on active surveillance at 8pm Eastern, June 29 with a program entitled: "Is Active Surveillance Safe for Black Men?" This is an important topic in a time of growing concern about equity in health care. The program will feature Anthony Henry, a Black man from Toronto who has been on AS for five years and is Vice President of the Walnut Foundation; Willie Underwood III, MD, a high-profile Black urologist who opted for surgery; and Brandon Mahal, MD, a leading researcher on health equity issues and AS at the University of Miami. New Podcast
We are excited about a new podcast produced by friends of ours in Chicago. Prostate Cancer: REAL TALK has just launched, and will offer a regular series of podcasts specifically for those affected by prostate cancer. The first episode has just been posted, and future episodes will feature Jim Schraidt and Dr. Adam Murphy from the Us TOO Board. Study on Device to Help with Hot Flashes
Are you experiencing hot flashes as a result of prostate cancer treatment? Men are needed to participate in supporting a study on hot flashes in men with prostate cancer (EMBR). The study entails using a wearable device to provide cooling on the wrist and reduce hot flashes. All recruitment and study follow up is done remotely. These materials have been IRB approved. Support Groups
Us TOO announces a new support group. A Prostate Cancer Forum for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Men and Caregivers is an ongoing virtual online support group series which provides those who are affected by prostate cancer and are Deaf or hard of hearing with important peer-to-peer support. The monthly virtual group meetings will use American Sign Language (ASL), there will not be any voice interpreting or captioning provided for the group. Contact Terri Likowski at terril@ustoo.org to reserve your spot. Please note that space is limited.
We are excited to announce that we are putting together a Spanish language prostate cancer support group for men and their caregivers. The group will meet once a month, with the first meeting happening in June. This is a virtual group which can be accessed by internet or phone from any location. To sign up for the group, please email Terri at terril@ustoo.org. Space is limited.
