January 1st is a time of optimism for most people. A new year, a new beginning, a chance to improve our physical and mental health, and start doing all the things that we've been putting off for too long. According to History.com, humans have been making New Years resolutions for approximately 4,000 years, since the Ancient Babylonians, who also happened to be the first to hold recorded celebrations in honor of the new year. Although a lot has changed in four millennia, we still look forward to a fresh start.
Every year, some of the most common New Year's Resolutions we make are to eat healthy, lose weight, travel more, learn a new hobby, spend more time with family and friends, and so on. Can we propose adding a road trip along PA Route 6 to that list? Because when you visit PA Route 6, you have the opportunity to check off a lot of other boxes. Travel...check! Spend time with family and friends...check! And with seemingly endless opportunities for outdoor recreation and winter activities, you'll also be on your way to a healthier and more active lifestyle.
Along PA Route 6, you'll also find numerous opportunities to learn about history and visit lasting landmarks, take an art class with a member of the Artisan Trail, or explore one of our 20 lovely little Heritage Communities that make PA Route 6 one of America's oldest and best road trips! Whatever the reason, and regardless of the season, it's always a good time to visit PA Route 6! Request a visitor's guide and start planning today. We hope to see you in 2024!

Maker's Market at Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center a Success
A special thank you to Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center in Wellsboro for hosting the most recent PA Route 6 Maker's Market in December. The market was held in conjunction with the 8th Annual Christmas on Main Street, an event that features 30 displays of historic ornaments made locally in the early 1940s. The Gmeiner was one location where ornaments were displayed (picture above). Thanks to Gmeiner, 18 local artisans were able to set up tables, vend their goods, demonstrate, and offer free activities related to their craft.

"Pennsylvania's mid-20th-century Route 6 brought together appealing natural environments, historical events, and cultural landscapes. The eastern length of the route crosses an area featuring rolling mountains and tranquil valleys dotted by farms and towns. To the west, Route 6 traverses a more level landscape that also includes lakes. This book presents the entire scenic drive as a destination in itself. It covers the secluded setting of northern Pennsylvania where Route 6 and its towns have experienced minimal changes associated with larger metropolitan regions and interstate highways. As a result, the mid-20th-century landscapes of Route 6 have lingered a little longer. The authors give the reader a peek of a past not entirely swept away."
