Dear saints,
I wonder if you’ve ever noticed what I noticed for the first time this week — that the story of the Day of Pentecost, with all of its wild winds and tongues of fire, has one thing conspicuously absent: fear. In the Bible, when the heavens touch the earth through the arrival of angels or utterances of the divine voice, a line that often follows is ‘do not be afraid’. Not so with the disciples and the coming of the Holy Spirit. For me, this is a wonderful testament to the fact that when people of faith encounter the Spirit it is not fear that fills their hearts but hope.
Such is our gift to offer to the world around us right now. Understandably, many people remain fearful of getting sick or simply of what the future may hold for them. We may also wonder what church will be like after all of this time away. Yet to be people of the Spirit is to be people who trust that all of this is God’s work so why be fearful? I pray that you may know that same Spirit of Pentecost arrive on the doorstep of your life in the weeks to come. She’s all we’ll ever need to be the church, in this present time of challenge and evermore.
Peace,

Exploring Western Mysticism with Simeon Bruce
Sunday, May 23, 9:00-9:55 a.m., on Zoom
One unifying claim within Western Mysticism is that some knowledge is inaccessible to the intellect, and that we can learn truths about ourselves and about God through contemplation, the emotions, and sensory experiences like gazing upon icons, listening to music, or being in nature. This claim does not discredit enlightenment ideas like reason, logic, and evidence, but acknowledges that some truths are discovered in different ways.
In this brief series, Simeon Bruce will lead us through a discussion of three different women in the mystical tradition of the West: Margery Kempe, Thérèse of Lisieux, and Hildegard von Bingen. In the company of these women, we will come to appreciate the diverse roads to union with God that they have mapped out for us.

"One of Andy's recent sermons made sense to me and echoed the way Art and I have stayed involved in All Saints’. Even though the odds may seem against you as you start work in this community: START ANYWAY! It’s the same with our giving: GIVE ANYWAY! We have named All Saints' as the beneficiary of some insurance policies. It wasn't hard to do and we encourage you to START ANYWAY — just like Andy said it!"
—Mary Wyche Lesesne
For more information on making a planned gift to All Saints', contact Ellen Hayes in the Development office at ehayes@allsaintsatlanta.org.
As always, remember to give to All Saints' as though there was an offering plate passing before you. Mail your check, bring your check or cash to an outdoor service, or make a gift online at allsaintsatlanta.org/give.
Thank you!
