MIRACLE IN MISSION

PESA joins Council District 6 and LAPD Mission Division for holiday festivities

The holiday season is around the corner and there is a special kind of magic in the air – the enchanting spirit of giving and making a positive impact in our communities. This month, PESA was excited to join Los Angeles City Councilmember Imelda Padilla and the LAPD Mission Division for a holiday celebration at Sepulveda Recreation Center.

This festive event attracted over 4,0000 attendees, there were over 15,000 toys given away along with food, diapers and clothes. Children and their families were also able to greet Santa Claus in his sleigh, participate in art workshops, support local vendors, and witness a close-up experience of an LAPD helicopter and its take-off. PESA joined the celebration by staffing a community resource booth.

With each pamphlet and meaningful conversation shared, PESA staff were able to share some of the invaluable services for academic success and enlighten the community about the comprehensive mental health support available to them. Olivia Fike, a Master of Social Work Intern at PESA shares, “Through these events, we get to inform the services we provide at PESA to diverse communities, ultimately getting the PESA name out.” She recalls a particularly memorable moment when she got to “meet the people who live in the communities we serve and have conversations with them, and see the children with their Christmas gifts made it extra magical.”

This event was strategically held at the central location of the Sepulveda Recreation Center to ensure more accessibility for Northeast Valley families. Typically, families from these communities need to visit different locations to find various resources but this year Councilmember Padilla aimed to unite organizations in a single space to ensure easy access. She states, “We need more of this. We need to create more opportunities and more spaces with community resources for people to enjoy.”

PESA is proud to participate in events that revolve around the community and we want to extend our warmest holiday wishes to everyone!
