Amendment to SS4A FY2024 NOFO


On April 16, 2024, the USDOT published an amendment to the FY24 Safe Streets & Roads for All (SS4A) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO).


The amended NOFO:


  • Increases implementation funding limit
  • Clarifies post-deadline award procedure
  • Waives up to $200K in match for certain U.S. territories
  • Disallows unsuccessful IG applicants to apply for P&D Grants
  • Encourages bundling P&D activities into IG applications
  • Moves deadline for technical Q&A to April 24

Structural Design with UHPC

Using AASHTO Specifications


FHWA is presenting a 4-hour workshop on "Structural Design with UHPC using AASHTO Guide Specifications" at the International Bridge Conference in San Antonio on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 1:30pm to 6pm.

The release of AASHTO's Guide Specifications for Structural Design with Ultra-High Performance Concrete allows designers to engage with UHPC.


The objective of FHWA's workshop is to provide background, context, and foundational knowledge to bridge owners and designers interested in using UHPC for structural applications, building on a basic knowledge of reinforced and prestressed concrete bridge design to introduce and explain aspects of analysis and design unique for UHPC structural elements.

FHWA FUNDING ALERT:

Highway Construction Training Program Grant


FHWA has announced a new grant program to fund existing Highway Construction Workforce Partnerships (HCWP) and establish new programs to identify, train, place, and retain individuals into highway construction jobs.

$4.2M in grant funds will be made available through the Highway Construction Training Program (HCTP), with awards reaching $300K each. HCTP grants are intended to supplement existing Strategic Workforce Development program activities and augment efforts to establish new programs.

Crash Injury Metrics


NCHRP's "Evaluation & Comparison of Roadside Crash Injury Metrics" evaluates roadside crash injury metrics and proposes enhanced crash injury data that better reflect current occupant characteristics and fleet vehicles.


This report covers NCHRP research program 17-90, which considered:


  • Front, side, and oblique impact types
  • Relevant crash and occupant characteristics
  • Impact tolerance of all major body regions
  • Injury potential of intrusion into occupant compartment
