Board Workshop - Board Brief
Dear Lovejoy Community:

The district’s communication plan includes updates regarding Board Meetings. Following each meeting of the Board of Trustees, we share a recap of the evening’s events.

Following is the October 18, 2021 Board Brief.

The Board meeting was called to order at 5:35 PM for the Board Dinner. The Board recessed at 5:57 PM and opened the Workshop at 6:02 PM.
The Board of Trustees and the Superintendent of Schools comprise the Team of Eight. The following members of the Team of Eight were present at the meeting.

Jeff Wood, Trustee
Marvin Bobo, Trustee
Jason Jaynes, Trustee
Katie Kordel, Superintendent of Schools
Each Board meeting has a time for Public Comments related to agenda items. There were no public comments.

Katie Kordel, Superintendent of Schools, recommended Kevin Parker to the Board of Trustees for consideration of approval as the Executive Director of Human Resources and Communications. The Board unanimously approved Mr. Parker and congratulated him on his new role. The press release may be found here.
      
Dr. Jennifer DuPlessis, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations, recommended Thomas Willman to the Board of Trustees for consideration of approval as the Senior Director of Financial Sustainability. The Board unanimously approved Mr. Tillman. The press release regarding Mr. Willman may be found here.
       
Katie Kordel, Superintendent of Schools recommended Cera Risoli to the Board of Trustees for consideration of approval as a 7th grade Science Teacher and Athletic Coach. The Board unanimously approved Ms. Risoli. You may find additional information here.

Dr. Laurie Tinsley, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, and Casey Littlefield, Lead Security Marshal presented a report on Safety and Security which may be found here.

  • Health and Safety

Dennis Muizers, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, presented reports on:

  • District and Campus Improvement Plans
  • Elementary Gifted and Talented Class Sizes and Staffing

Dr. Laurie Tinsley, Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, presented a report on the School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) which may be found here.
       
Dr. Jennifer DuPlessis, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations, presented reports on:

  • Carrie L. Lovejoy Child Development Center Playground Equipment
  • Independent Audit Process and FIRST Report

Katie Kordel, Superintendent of Schools presented a report on District Recognitions and Celebrations. The report may be found here.

Board Trustee Chad Collins shared special thanks to Wendy Craft, Principal of Hart Elementary School, and Holly Haynes, Principal of Puster Elementary School, who worked tremendously hard to make the elementary restructure so successful.

Board Secretary Anne Smith shared that she has received positive feedback from the community on the elementary restructure.

Board President Barrett Owens congratulated the football team on a great win on Friday night.

With there being no further business, the Board adjourned at 7:51 PM.
