Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. - Psalm 62:5
Our lives are like mountain roads. There are times in our lives when the road is flat through a meadow with slight turns leading to our destination. Still, there are other times when we enter a series of winding roads, some gradual, and others down-right treacherous. Our palms are sweaty and our backs tense. Other times, we feel like we are lying on the road of life just waiting to be run over by the next tractor trailer of trials and tribulations.
In Psalm 62, King David is being pursued with one singular intention - to dethrone him! It is a time of malice, lies, falsehoods, and terror. How on earth can the running king rest? David doesn’t look for peace in his family, in his guards, or in his servants. The King doesn’t look for solace in himself either. The King rests in God alone declaring “Truly my soul finds rest in God.” So can you.
God knows what is going on in your life right now, he cares and wants you to rest in Him alone.
Martin Luther wrote an evening prayer I pray often.
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have graciously kept me this day; and I pray that You would forgive me all my sins where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
But Luther wasn’t quite done, he added additional instruction…
“Then go to sleep at once and in good cheer.” :-)
See you Sunday, we continue our series, UNSHAKABLE - I can’t wait!
