Reflecting on a

Decade of Achievements

๏ปฟThis February marks my tenth anniversary of leading CAPA, and I'm thrilled to reflect on the incredible achievements we've accomplished together over the past decade. Please join me as

I revisit the top ten highlights.

Together, we...

๐Ÿ’™Doubled the number of full-time staff and maintained a model workplace culture that values self-care.

๐Ÿ’™Expanded our service provision space by more than double, opening a second location and upgrading our therapy playground.

๐Ÿ’™Maximized our relationships with local school districts by increasing the number of school-based services while also utilizing technology to reduce barriers to access.

๐Ÿ’™Were honored as the non-profit business of the year on both sides of the state line.

๐Ÿ’™Began providing virtual services during COVID, reaching as far west as Kansas, allowing us to serve children and families in critical situations.

๐Ÿ’™Hosted hundreds of counseling and social work interns from local colleges and universities, helping them develop as future practitioners and fueling the workforce economy in the Kansas City area.

๐Ÿ’™Secured financial resources to offer competitive salaries and provide essential training and professional development to our therapists, home visitors, community education team, and leadership team.

๐Ÿ’™Embarked on a courageous journey of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, creating an environment at CAPA where everyone feels welcome.

๐Ÿ’™More than quadrupled CAPAโ€™s budget and in-kind support, empowering us to serve more children and families.

๐Ÿ’™Purposefully built a staff team and board that reflects the diverse communities we serve.

As we eagerly anticipate and prepare for CAPAโ€™s 50th year of serving children and families in 2025, let's remember those who came before us, recognizing their vision and sacrifices to meet the needs of others. I dedicate this entire year to CAPAโ€™s founders, the Junior Service League of Independence (CAPAโ€™s first grant funder), and all former employees, interns, and board members who played a pivotal role in changing the lives of children and families forever.

We have done some tremendous things together, and we are not done!

:: Self-Care Tip

Take a Moment to Breathe

A one minute Box breathing exercise video created by CAPA staff.

"Box breathing is a deep breathing technique that prompts your brain and body to slow down, ground yourself, and regulate your nervous system. Deep breathing is a built-in coping technique that everyone can use, which is why itโ€™s so beneficial. Itโ€™s a skill that can be used anywhere at any time."

CAPA Clinical Director
