MONDAY MEMO
Portraits with Puppies! The litter of great pyrenees puppies from Roy's dog Nala have brought joy to students all over campus a few times this spring. Two of them have now found homes among Riverside families, so they may continue to visit! Pictured are 6th graders Sofia, Sylvan, and Lyric getting cuddles during their morning break.
Greetings!

There are four weeks left of school, and two more weekend events to look forward to in that time. We realize we are asking a lot of your time this month, because we couldn't during the first eight months of the school year. Thank you for participating as you can.

Happy Monday,
Nelia
NOTES
SPRING CLEAN UP/LOVE RIVERSIDE
We enjoyed another weekend full of that special Riverside family energy! Thank you all so much for your time helping with campus improvements and celebrating our pavilion project on Saturday. If you were not able to be with us, there are a few jobs cards that remain on the bulletin board, look them over and check in with Nelia if you'd like to help with one at a different time.
SUPER CASH RAFFLE
We have sold 242 tickets, which is so impressive for our community to embrace this first-time event! For the event to run at its best, we'd really, REALLY like to sell 6 more tickets (the last two will be raffled off during the event as chances to win become more likely), if you know someone who'd like to purchase one, email Krystal.

The Event: We welcome all those who purchased tickets to join us for the raffle drawing on Saturday, May 22 at 4:00 pm on the soccer field. Please bring your own chairs, blankets, and/or beverages of choice (alcohol is permitted). You are welcome to bring your children, but we ask that you supervise them and keep them with you. There will be some snacks, games, and live music. We expect the event to wrap up around 6:30 pm.

Volunteers Needed: If you can lend a hand with one of the following kinds of tasks to make the event a success, please email Sara Lussier (8th grader Ethan).
  • set up (Saturday, 2:30 pm)
  • clean up
  • more opportunities to help will be listed in next week's MM, as we finalize plans
GROW RIVERSIDE OUTSIDE
What have Riverside teachers meant to you? If it's something positive, we hope you will demonstrate that by honoring them with a gift to our Teachers Pavilion. You can even name a teacher with your gift, and that will lead to an extra feature about him or her in the pavilion. No gift is too small, it's the act of giving, even $10, that shows your support.
BIOGRAPHY FAIR
4-8th graders will present their research and ideas about a variety of important figures this Friday. Teachers have been helping them to discover, organize, and summarize information, articulate their opinions, write conventionally, and visually create engaging displays in ways that are appropriate to their developmental level, and unique to their learning goals. While some students will do this project over five years, it's a little bit different each time.

It's understandable if your 4th-8th grader feels "stressed" this week. Helping them learn how to manage those feelings and to practice organizing their time and the small components of the project is an important part of this effort. Please plan to check in with them nightly about how it's going, and communicate with their social studies teachers as needed. Friday will offer many reasons to celebrate!

The students' presentations will be streamed on Google Meet for anyone who would like to watch.

9:00-10:15
10:45-11:45
The afternoon will include time to reflect on their own work and what they learned from others, an activity related to our Houses led by student council, and an extra-long PE class. Dismissals are at the regular times.
KINDERGARTEN BOTTLE DRIVE
Mrs. Toney's Carriage House Kids will be conducting a bottle drive to practice their counting by fives and to raise money for shavings and feed for their chicks which will soon hatch. If you have returnable bottles that you would like to donate, please drop them off to the Carriage House at any time. We thank you so much!
SPRING PAG MEETING
The next Parent Advisory Group meeting will be tomorrow, Tuesday, May 11 at 5:00 pm. We look forward to seeing those who are comfortable and able in-person under the tent in the cedar circle, but will also provide a Google meet link for those who prefer. All Riverside parents are welcome to attend. The agenda will include discussions of fundraising status (toward the annual $25,000 goal for parents), end of year celebrations, and planning and goal setting for next year.

MOUNTAIN BIKE CLUB
Mountain Bike Club will meet again this Thursday afternoon at 3:45, in the parking lot next to The Hub on Darling Hill. All ages and abilities are welcome, though students must have their own bikes. In order to get an idea of how many kids we might have, please email or speak with Sean directly if your child is interested in joining. Additionally, let him know if you're able to chaperone, having more adults can allow us to divide into groups based on ability and ensure everyone is comfortable.
LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
Friday, June 4, our last day of school, will be a fun day full of celebration of a successful year. It is a full day, with regular dismissal times at 3:00/3:30, and the Afterschool/Extended Day programs will run. More details will be in future MMs.
GRADUATION 2021
As the state lifts COVID requirements between now and the end of the school year, we anticipate being able to host a graduation ceremony that is as close to normal as possible, though we have had to make some decisions for spacing that will limit attendance. Typically, Riverside's graduation is a PreK-8th community event that culminates the school year with traditions that have been practiced since 1981. With the audience appropriately spaced, this year we will only be able to host faculty, trustees, 8th-graders, and approximately 5 guests or family members per graduate. We’ll be sending an email to families of graduates soon with further details. As an 8th-grade family, if you need more information right away, please reach out to Roy.
VACCINATED ADULTS ON CAMPUS
If parents are on campus when students are not, and they are vaccinated, they do not need to wear a mask. If there is any chance of students being around, we should all be masked regardless of vaccination status.
NEW FACULTY NEXT YEAR
We are excited to announce that we have hired Emily Spring to be our third-grade teacher next year (Allee will be moving to 2nd grade). Emily graduated with a master’s in education from Antioch University, and has nine years of experience as a 3rd-grade teacher and team leader at Marin Country Day School in Corte Madera, California. We have also hired Marie Vaine to be our PreK-8 music teacher next year. Marie is a lifelong musician in a variety of instruments and has a background in outdoor education. Anyone who has spent much time on campus has seen what a gifted educator she is and we are all excited to welcome her to the team!
CHICKENS FOR DONATION
An alumni family is downsizing their chicken coop and would like to offer 6 Plymouth Black Rock (a hardy variety well-suited to Vermont) hens and a rooster in exchange for a donation to the school. If you are interested, please email Nelia and she will put you in touch with the sellers.
