Our Lady of Mount Carmel School

Golden Cross Award Recipients for December

Holyn Tittle and Luke Keller

The Golden Cross Award is presented to two students a month who exemplify our school motto to be “Stewards for Christ” by using all the gifts that God has given to them, both natural and supernatural, in service to God and others.

The Golden Cross, which these students wear throughout the month, is the greatest symbol of the love Jesus has for us, and His mission, which he expressed in the words “I did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give my life as a ransom for many.” It is Jesus that we seek to imitate through a life of grace and virtue. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

After careful consideration of all nominations submitted, Holyn Tittle and Luke Keller were chosen to receive the Golden Cross Award. Please find here the nominations for both students:

Holyn Tittle shows the virtues of respect and kindness. She is always there for everyone who needs her, and respects everyone. She helps me with all my homework that I need help with. She also would never hurt a fly and she is just a genuinely kind person. She lifts everyone in the room up, and puts a smile on everyone’s face. She never thinks of herself, and always puts other people before her!

Luke Keller shows the virtues of friendship and fortitude. He is a great friend! Three times I have seen him stand up for a friend and speak up for them when they’ve needed help. When another student fails at something, he never draws attention to it or laughs, but brings them in with a hi-5. When another student succeeds, he is excited for them. He has fortitude because in difficult situations he stands firm in what he knows is right.

As we conclude a season of much gift giving, this is a topic that has recently come up. So, we wanted to provide here a good article and section from the Catechism of the Catholic Church as you seek to educate your own children.

Article:

https://www.simplycatholic.com/the-occult-disposes-us-to-satan/

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to "unveil" the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

No one knows the future except for God, and so certain "toys" would fall into the category of "other practices that are falsely supposed to "unveil" the future."

Class Composites:

If you ordered a class composite, they were sent home yesterday or today with your child(ren). You do not automatically receive a class composite.

If you still want to order one go to: https://inter-state.com/

Picture Day Code: 69024QB

Order package 11 - Class Picture for $10

The annual book, puzzle, and game drive begins today. Items will go to either OLMC or Notre Dame Ace Academies. Place gently used items in the collection box in the Atrium. Please take the time to tape any boxes closed so pieces don’t fall out or go missing😊 Thank you Megan O’Connor for organizing!
