Hoe Before You Know
  • With the most recent rain events and heat coming this week, we should be aware of potential crusting causing emergence issues.

  • Rotary hoes can work, but you must use them early.

  • We saw great benefits in corn last spring when using rotary hoes at the correct timing.

  • One important factor when running a rotary hoe is speed (8-10mph). Be sure to run some test strips to make sure you are not doing more damage than good. Use more caution in soybeans than corn.

  • See the video and pictures below.

Don't Forget Your Soybean Trait Flags
  • We have soybean trait flags available for $11 per flag.

  • It's best to place the flags at the field entrance inside the field, and near adjoining soybean fields.

  • Contact one of our consultants if you would like to order some flags.

HD Scouting

  • With the challenges #plant22 is currently seeing right now, scouting will be more critical to crop success and yield potential.

  • We currently have about 26,000 boundary acres on the books for our 2022 scouting season.

Remain Patient
  • As things dry out, use caution when selecting which fields to start planting into again. Remember you only get one chance to do things right in a field at planting.

  • "Sunny, warm and dry all week over Ohio. That forecast is pretty simple. We see nearly maximum evaporation each day from tomorrow forward through Saturday at .25″-.33″ of moisture per day leaving through evaporation."

  • Some may ask about changing corn maturities as we get late into May, we do not suggest this. Hybrids can adjust the amount of GDDs required to reach maturity.

  • Happy planting, and good luck! Please reach out with any questions. 937-823-3003
